The Barefoot Bar
About
Cocktails with a View of the Pacific
Stepping onto the open-air deck at The Barefoot Bar feels like the quintessential Waikiki arrival. Positioned right on the sand at the iconic Duke’s Waikiki, this spot leans heavily into the relaxed island lifestyle where shoes are optional and the sound of crashing waves provides the permanent soundtrack. It serves as the bridge between the high-energy dining room and the cooling Pacific breeze, making it the premier location to catch the sunset without the formality of a reservation.
Island Flavors and Signature Sips
The menu centers on casual, crowd-pleasing island staples. You cannot miss their legendary Hula Pie—a mountain of macadamia nut ice cream, chocolate fudge, and whipped cream that is large enough to derail any diet. For those looking for something savory, the Kalua pork tacos or the crispy coconut shrimp pair perfectly with a classic Mai Tai, prepared with a distinct dark rum float that locals swear by. The bar staff works with a rhythmic efficiency, despite the inevitable crush of tourists hoping to snag one of the high-top tables near the water’s edge.
Practical Island Notes
The energy here is consistently high, particularly during the late afternoon live music sets. You will likely deal with a bit of a crowd, and the acoustic environment can get boisterous as the evening rolls in, so expect to speak up to be heard. Parking in the area is notoriously difficult, so arriving early or taking a short stroll from nearby hotels is your best bet. Whether you are shaking the sand off your feet after a surf session or just settling in for a cold drink while the sky turns purple over Diamond Head, this is a cornerstone of the Honolulu beachfront experience.

All about the location. Great vibes, comfy and quiet considering it’s mostly military. Prices are standard and tough if you aren’t military. Hotel is like a campus, fun to explore. Great spot to spend a few hours going between the beach and the bar.

Always a delight. Today was a quick bevy with an amazing view. Previous visits have been for sunset drinks. The atmosphere, live music, and sunset views are worth the trip.

Finally an affordable Mai Tai! Great drinks great service we always come here when we're in Waikiki. No food served here so the Google food rating doesn't apply at the Barefoot bar. Drinks were 10.60 so I used the lower price

Had 3 drinks here while waiting for dinner. Service was quick and the location is great, right on the beach. The blended drinks weren’t very strong but the mai tai made up for it. The mango flow was great and the pina colada tasted like they forgot the pineapple. Super pro-military menu and they played stadium country the entire 90 minutes we were there but it was better than anything at the Hilton village.

This is a great outdoor spot to have some drinks right off the beach! We watched the sunset on the beach and then walked right in and it wasn't too busy (on a weekday at 6pm). Our server Josephine was lovely and very good at checking up on us. A little later on they had live music too, and it was a very relaxed and enjoyable vibe! My favourite drink was the Lava Flow! (FYI no food service though)

I loved this experience. The drinks were top-notch. They have military pricing. The food was super quick and very reasonably priced. The view while we ate was hard to beat. The atmosphere was so relaxing. The only thing is they won't validate parking while the VA is backed up 6 months so my boyfriend with a Veteran Real ID doesn't have the proper registration they will accept here. You'd think they would be accommodating of vets here.

Incredible Mai Tai! Definitely recommend for an afternoon break from the beach when you're craving a cocktail. If you want food, there's a little snack shop next door where you can buy food and bring it over.
