TEX 808 BBQ + Brews Hawaii Kai
About
Low and Slow in Hawaii Kai
Tucked away near the marina in Hawaii Kai, TEX 808 BBQ + Brews brings a mainland smokehouse sensibility to the Pacific. This is where the scent of mesquite and hickory smoke hangs heavy in the air, a sharp contrast to the salty breeze blowing off the nearby docks. The kitchen focuses on a patient, labor-intensive approach to barbecue, specializing in brisket that pulls apart with the slightest nudge of a fork and pork ribs that lean into a sweet, tangy glaze.
Craft Brews and Casual Bites
The interior leans into a rustic, industrial aesthetic with communal tables that encourage a bit of shoulder-rubbing with neighbors. It is a loud, high-energy environment—the kind of place where the clinking of glasses and the buzz of conversation drowns out the world outside. The bar program is a significant part of the draw, featuring a rotation of local craft beers on tap that cut through the richness of the fatty brisket and house-made coleslaw. Whether you are grabbing a quick lunch after a morning hike at Koko Head or settling in for a long dinner, the atmosphere stays grounded and unpretentious.
Local Observations
Be aware that the parking lot in this specific retail complex can get congested during peak dining hours, so patience is a virtue when pulling in. Once you find a spot, however, the heavy plates of comfort food—specifically the loaded mac and cheese—make the effort worth it. This spot is best suited for families, groups of friends looking for a laid-back weekend hangout, or anyone needing a break from the standard island plate lunch fare.

I have given this place several try's. Today was the last time. I spent 70 dollars for a pulled pork sandwich with tater tots, as well as a brisket meal with 2 sides plus, a half pound more of brisket, because of the small portion. I ordered corn on the cob, I got "canned corn" instead, Tater tots over cooked and over seasoned. Baked beans taste like it came out of a can. Pulled pork was ok, brisket size was small so I ordered a half pound more, thankfully the meat itself was "ok". The burnt ends of the brisket are my favorite part, and they were "inedible". Nothing to brag about. But for as much as I spent and for the quality of the food, then the service… As I waited patiently, everyone after me, kept walking in front of me, the employees saw me standing there first, I was not in their way, but I stayed out of the way across the bar. but the employees insisted on helping 3 other people before finally acknowledging me. Never again. At this point I am so angry I can't even eat the food. Thanks for wasting my time and money.

Original server dropped water off and seemed to forget about us. Another server stepped in and he was great. Wet burrito was pretty tasty, but light on the meat, heavy on everything else. Literally a gut bomb haha. Tots and frickles were good. Come hungry.

Amazing BBQ for Hawaii. The best brisket I have found so far here. The drinks aren’t strong. The service is good. The live music was awesome when we went. The combination with tios let you have a big menu with amazing options. The banana pudding IS NOT REAL PUDDING ITS CUSTARD. Don’t fall for the trap. Other then that I have been multiple times and will be coming back

As someone from Austin, TX, moving to the island for a few years, I always hear “Aren’t you going to get homesick?” Naturally, I thought about that. A kind gentleman I met on the plane recommended this place, and wow — I was shocked! It’s nothing like what I was expecting in the best way possible. From the BBQ to the beer, everything was spot on, and the décor absolutely blew me away — all the famous Austin murals are displayed on the walls! It instantly felt like home. I’ve already told three of my Texas friends here about it, and I’ll be making a point to stop in every visit. This place truly nailed it, and I hope the locals give it a try too. You won’t be disappointed!

We came in the afternoon right before dinner on a Sunday and there was a good amount of patrons enjoying this venue already. Took a few minutes to get seated but when we did we were out on the back porch next to the water. The views here are absolutely beautiful. Our kids enjoyed pointing out the various boats and canoes that passed by plus the birds that came and went. Our server was quick and really personable. He was pretty funny and very patient with the kids. Everyone we talked to from the staff was really kind and friendly. The atmosphere was very chill and casual. Their menu was extensive. There's a lot of variety and a few menu items you can tell were some type of fusion food because they made it their own way. Everything we ordered we enjoyed from the brisket, the sausages, the ribs, the turkey and the pulled pork. Our kids ate it up quickly too. The brisket was tender and flavorful. The turkey was not dry--it was juicy and delicious. The pulled pork was so tender and well flavored. The ribs did not fall off the bone but it was still juicy. We enjoyed the side of garlic mashed potatoes with gravy, mac salad, coleslaw, and French fries. We were so full going home. This is a nice spot for some good food and a good time. I do recommend coming here and checking it out.

Really amazing marina view and patio. Staff are amazingly friendly and the food was great! A very pleasant lunch with even better views. The portions were generous and the onion rings were fantastic. The brisket on the loco moco was smokey and flavourful, and the batter on the fish and chips were crispy. Would recommend!

Probably the best BBQ you will get on the island, with amazing scenery. I really enjoyed the brisket, turkey breast, red vinegary sauce, and the gravy with mashed potatoes. The servers were very attentive and friendly. Made sure we were good on the refills and anything else we needed. The atmosphere and seating is the cherry on top, with a breezy, outdoor view of the Hawaii Kai Marina.

I had the Valentine's dinner for two.I loved it. The prime rib was served at the perfect temperature, medium rare. The sides: lobster mac n cheese, was velvety creamy and cheesy, deep fried corn on the cob had amazingly unique flavors of grilled BBQ. But save room for dessert. The banana pudding was made with real bananas, so good. The key lime pie was rich with fresh lime flavors, too.The ambiance here is like a sports bar feel, not romantic.I also ordered their homemade lemonade vodka cocktail with Titos! Yum! I recommend this place if you want to experience authentic Texas down home cooking in Honolulu.
