About
A Slice of Mexico in the Heart of Honolulu
Stepping into Tequileria Restaurante y Cantina feels less like walking into a commercial dining room and more like discovering a local neighborhood hangout in the middle of Hawaii. Tucked away from the typical Waikiki tourist trail, this spot offers a gritty, authentic atmosphere where the air is thick with the scent of searing chiles and lime-marinated proteins.
The Cantina Spirit
This is not your polished, white-tablecloth experience. You will find that the space leans into a casual, high-energy cantina vibe. It is the kind of place where the music is lively enough to drown out the city traffic, and the bar program takes center stage. Their collection focuses heavily on agave spirits, which pair perfectly with their signature street-style tacos and house-made salsas that pack a genuine heat.
What to Expect
Whether you are pulling up a stool to escape the afternoon humidity or sitting down for a late-night feast, the menu keeps things straightforward and punchy. Expect generous portions of carnitas that lean on the traditional side—tender, fatty, and perfectly crisped on the edges. Pro tip: keep an eye on your parking situation, as finding a spot in this part of Honolulu can be a bit of a localized sport. It is a fantastic choice for those who value a loud, spirited environment over quiet elegance, making it ideal for groups looking for a no-frills place to grab strong drinks and heavy, savory comfort food before hitting the rest of the island’s nightlife.

The restaurant that replaced the Mexican restaurant that was here before was horrible. The food was ok. At first we got decent service because it was pretty empty, then they just completely ignored us. I waved them down five different times before I walked up to the counter myself to pay the bill because I had a flight to catch.

Ordinary airport Mexican. Bland, overpriced, soulless. Ono tacos had very scant fish, doughy tortillas, terrible salsa. OK view of the apron and runway. Service was ok. I would come here to drink only, if only I drank.

Understaffed and overworked! The restaurant has potential but with only two waitresses, one bartender on the floor, it's impossible to please everyone. The food took 20 minutes and ordering a drinking another 10 minutes. The food looked great, but didn't taste like anything.
