Teppanyaki Farmer
About
Fresh Ingredients Meet Island Precision
In the heart of Honolulu, Teppanyaki Farmer flips the script on traditional Japanese grilling. Instead of relying on mass-produced imports, this spot emphasizes locally sourced produce and fresh-caught seafood, bringing the garden directly to the iron griddle. The kitchen takes a farm-forward approach, meaning the vegetable sides are just as vibrant and seasoned as the main proteins.
The Sensory Play of the Griddle
Expect a symphony of sounds: the rhythmic clatter of metal spatulas hitting the steel surface, the aggressive sizzle of garlic butter hitting a hot plate, and the collective cheers from the communal seating area when a shrimp tail lands perfectly in a chef's hat. The air is thick with the aromatic smoke of searing wagyu and charred island onions. It is a loud, high-energy environment, ideal for celebrations or groups looking for an interactive dinner that feels like a choreographed performance.
A Local Nuance
Because the space is intimate and popular with locals, the seating can feel cozy. You will likely be shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers, which is part of the charm—by the time the dessert course arrives, you’re usually swapping recommendations for the rest of your trip. Be prepared for a bit of a challenge finding street parking in this busy pocket of Oahu, so arriving a few minutes early to scout a spot is a smart move.
Signature Flavors
The menu highlights include the melt-in-your-mouth ribeye, finished with a signature house-made shoyu glaze that balances sweetness with a deep umami punch. Don't overlook the local mushroom medley, which takes on a smoky, earthy quality when seared in the high-heat teppanyaki style. It is an unpretentious, flavor-focused destination that honors Hawaii's agricultural bounty with Japanese precision.

Their burrito used to be so good but the last one we bought, they changed the greens! They put red cabbage instead of the leafy greens that we were used to! It was so bitter. 🤮

Tried its popular Da Original Steak Roll plate that came with 2 scoops of rice and some leafy greens. The roll was made from thinly sliced steak and shredded potato. Combining with its sweet sour soy sauce, this made a delicious lunch. The meat was tender and flavorful, unfortunately there weren’t too much meat in this plate lunch that costed $20.

Teppanyaki Farmer at Ala Moana Shopping Center is a great little spot for lunch or dinner! The food is cooked right in front of you with style and flavor. Highly recommend getting the ribeye and New York steak cooked medium rare — that’s where the magic happens. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor! The chefs are fun to watch. Great vibes, delicious food, and a cool experience all around.
