Taqueria (4211 Waialae Ave Ste 2000)
About
A Slice of Mexico in the Heart of Kaimuki
Stepping into this Waialae Avenue spot, you are immediately greeted by the charred, savory scent of al pastor spinning on a vertical spit. It is a high-energy corner of Honolulu where the fluorescent lights catch the steam rising from freshly pressed corn tortillas. Unlike the quiet, sit-down establishments nearby, this taqueria thrives on a rapid-fire pace that keeps the lunch crowd moving.
The Art of the Street Taco
The kitchen leans heavily into traditional preparation methods. Their signature carne asada is seared over a high-heat flat top until it develops a deep, caramelized crust, balancing the brightness of house-made salsa verde. Patrons often come for the classic street-style presentation: meat, onion, cilantro, and nothing else to distract from the quality of the protein. The menu keeps things focused, prioritizing depth of flavor over an endless list of ingredients.
Know Before You Go
While the food is stellar, the space is undeniably snug. Finding a stool during the peak rush hour in this Kaimuki enclave can be a game of musical chairs, and the ambient noise level hums with the sound of a busy kitchen and chatter from neighborhood regulars. It is the perfect spot for a quick, no-nonsense meal when you want authentic flavors without the formality of white tablecloths. Parking in the area can be tight, so consider a short stroll if you find the street spots occupied. It is an unpretentious, flavor-forward destination that respects the craft of the taco above all else.

I came here three days in a row. The burritos are pretty good. But today, my wife got chicken and i got carne asada and beef mix. All of the meat was beyond dry. I believe this to be unacceptable. I'm sure we'll go back, but we'll be sure to check the meat quality before leaving next time.
