Poolside Socializing Above Waikiki
High above the bustling sidewalks of Waikiki, Swell Restaurant & Bar transforms the typical hotel pool deck into a destination for sunset seekers. The air carries the sharp, salt-kissed breeze of the Pacific, and as evening sets in, the glow of fire pits begins to flicker against the sleek, modern loungers. It is an ideal spot if you want to avoid the high-density crowds of the beach while still keeping the ocean in sight.
Island Flavors and Craft Mixology
The menu leans heavily into local Hawaiian agriculture, prioritizing fresh ingredients that match the tropical heat. You will find elevated takes on classics, such as their signature poke bowls and island-style tacos that pair well with their extensive list of craft cocktails. Be prepared for a bit of a wait during golden hour; the seating around the infinity pool is the most sought-after real estate in the city, and it fills up quickly with both locals and travelers looking for that perfect skyline shot.
A Distinctive Atmosphere
While the aesthetic is undeniably polished, the soundtrack is pure Honolulu leisure. Expect the rhythmic pulse of lounge music that complements the hum of conversation without drowning it out. It is a sensory mix of clinking glassware, the distant sound of surf, and the warmth of the fire features that keep the space comfortable even when the evening humidity drops. If you plan on visiting, arrive early to secure a spot near the edge of the terrace; it is the perfect vantage point for watching the sky transition from a brilliant blue to a deep, bruised orange over the Pacific horizon.

I’m attaching proof that I visited this place along with photos of the two staff members involved in the experience. Unfortunately, the overall vibe and customer service here were terrible. The guy dressed in all black first greeted me and my friend and asked what we wanted to drink, but he seemed rushed even though the restaurant was almost empty. When I asked for the drink menu, he rudely told me to “flip over the menu” because the drinks were on the back. It wasn’t what he said, it was his tone. Then while we were sitting there, he started talking to his coworker about how he was happy to work somewhere he didn’t have to deal with women with false lashes. I was literally sitting there wearing false lashes, so overhearing that felt disrespectful and uncomfortable. Read the room. The woman I circled in the photo was also rude. She joked that me and my friend were going to “run out” without paying, which honestly felt inappropriate and offensive. I ordered the poke bowl because it looked amazing online. I hadn’t eaten since 10:30 AM, had just run 3 miles, and was starving after work travel in Hawaii. When the food came, I realized after a few bites that I just didn’t like the wonton chips or the overall dish. I politely told the waitress I would just switch plates with my friend and still pay for my meal. Instead of handling it professionally, she immediately got defensive and questioned me repeatedly asking, “What made you change your mind?” and “You don’t like wonton chips?” As a customer spending a lot of money — a $20 drink and almost a $30 meal — that’s not how you speak to people. I was polite the entire time and still tipped 20% because I understand people work hard for a living, but the attitude and treatment were unacceptable. The rooftop looks nice online, but the experience was not worth it at all. The atmosphere felt uncomfortable, judgmental, and unwelcoming. I would not recommend this place.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful here. Axel and Dana and everyone else made it a great stay. The drinks are good, the vibes are chill. The pool sometimes is full of kids, but other than that it's pretty decent!

Cool pool vibe, with super loud music and DJ on Fridays and Saturdays. Food was good, But way too expensive for the inconveniences: super loud music. The table and the chairs were all very wobbly, I could not adjust it to make it stable. The lighting is very romantic, you do not see too much. Unfortunately, everything is full of cockroaches: the giant ones climbing on the flooring, under the tables, the poles, etc. the girls at all neighboring tables kept screaming and loudly jumping when the cockroachea ran towards them. Not for a date until they solve the cockroach problem.

I really enjoyed my experience at the restaurant, appreciating its vibrant and inviting atmosphere with tasteful decor and warm lighting. The food was decent, but considering the price point, I expected higher quality and more flavorful dishes to match the ambiance and pricing. The atmosphere itself is beautiful, creating a relaxing environment. The waiter was exceptionally friendly, attentive, and lively adding to the positive experience. For hotel guests, it’s a lovely addition, although the kitchen could benefit from minor improvements, such as better food consistency and presentation. Since we visited close to closing time, some menu items might have been unavailable, which could account for limited options during our visit.

Stopped by Swell Pool Bar restaurant for lunch today while staying at the hotel — just wanted something easy and relaxing, and it turned out to be a great choice! The food was delicious — the chicken tacos were packed with flavor, the fries were perfectly crispy, and the fried chicken with lemon was a winner. We also tried the passionfruit lemonade, which was refreshing and perfectly balanced definitely a great choice on a warm day! Big shoutout to Emily & Bree, our waitresses, friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. Thanks for the great service and warm hospitality! 🍹🌮🍗🍋

I went to pool often during my vacation and Swell pool bar is next to the pool. I love to get delicious drink and hanging out in a hot tube. I wish I could have breakfast at the place, but my schedule was so packed so only think that I tried at the bar was drinks but I actually enjoyed so much. They also have a sunset happy hour for short period of time for Mai tai at $10 I guess this was just seasonal. Bartender and all staff always friendly. I had very good time at the bar.
