Island Comforts in Kapahulu

Stepping into Sweet E's Cafe feels like catching a local secret before the rest of the island wakes up. Tucked away in the vibrant Kapahulu neighborhood, this spot has built a loyal following for those who prefer their breakfast with a side of authentic local energy. The room buzzes with the clatter of silverware and the morning chatter of regulars, creating an unpretentious environment that values flavor over formality.

The Stuffed French Toast Legacy

The kitchen is best known for its Stuffed French Toast—a decadent, pillowy creation that balances richness with seasonal fruit toppings. If you lean toward the savory side, the Mochiko Chicken Benedict offers a distinctive Hawaiian twist on a brunch staple, utilizing a crisp, soy-ginger-marinated crust that holds its own against perfectly poached eggs. Be prepared for a short wait on the sidewalk during peak weekend hours; it is a common sight to see hungry patrons lingering outside, chatting while they wait for a table to clear.

A Neighborhood Institution

Located just a few minutes from the bustle of Waikiki, this cafe captures the spirit of Honolulu dining. It isn't a place for hushed whispers or white-tablecloth service; it’s where you go to refuel before a long day at the beach or a hike up Diamond Head. The coffee is free-flowing, the staff moves with the fast-paced efficiency required of a busy morning rush, and the decor is bright and functional. Whether you are a visitor navigating the local food scene or a resident craving a reliable, hearty morning meal, the atmosphere here keeps the focus exactly where it should be: on the plate.

Place is worth it!! I go the classic FT with fruit, wife got the traditional egg Benedict, and son got the mess. Portions are VERY generous and all tastes amazing! It’s off the beaten tourist path which is exactly what you wanna do when you visit. Staff was amazing and engaging, server with the Mohawk was friendly and definitely the comedian of the group.

Some of the best breakfast I've had in Hawaii. It has a greasy spoon diner vibe but it is hiding some excellent food. The kalua pork is delicious, nice smoke flavor wland well shredded. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash browns were, truly, extra crisp. Definitely give this place a visit.

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing—everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. I ordered the extreme mess and the banana stuffed French toast, and both dishes were incredibly good. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and you can really tell they put care into their food. I would definitely recommend this place to others looking for a delicious and satisfying meal. I’ll be coming back for sure!

The food here is AMAZING! It was so good we had to stop twice during our trip. I had the chicken pesto omlet and it was to die for. My daughter got the elegant waffles with fresh fruit. Pricing was very fair. Portions were generous. The wait staff was excellent. All males I really liked that. They were all so friendly and welcoming. It seems like they all get along so well and that makes for such a welcoming experience for guests. This place is a must! If you don't stop you'll regret it!!!

The staff are super friendly and treat you like family. They even remembered me when I came in again days later. The food is delicious. I had the pulled pork Benedict and the Hawaiian omelet and it was amazing. My fiancé had the stuffed French toast and it was super spongy and sweet. Staff super attentive. I didn't even have to ask for refills, they immediately came over and refilled my drinks. Would come here again and again. Shout out to Ben for listening to our stories from our trip and offering suggestions on what to do while on the Island.

Brian was fantastic, from hosting to bussing tables! As a fellow member of the industry he’s someone i’d want on my team! Kudos to the entire sweet E’s team!! You guys crushed it. Additionally, the food was great! From sit down it took 15 minutes to arrive. This will forever be on our list when visiting the island.

The corned beef hash is great. If you can't finish it, save it for dinner. Coffee is great. You can have a coffee take-out later. The stuffed blueberry French toast is also good for our previous visit.

Amazing experience. Friendly service: They wiped down the high chair before giving it to us, moved us to a bigger table because of the baby, brought him a small toy. When we accidentally ordered something with meat (fried rice), they replaced it with something else for us. Food tasted great and it came out fast. I love this place.

Had a pretty good experience here at Sweet E's. We had to put our name on list to be called but we were called within minutes. It was a beautiful day and we were able to chose between sitting inside or outside so we chose to sit outside. We were greeted from the parking lot, shown our seat and immediately given menus. The food came quickly and was delightful. My blueberry stuffed French toast was the best thing I had during our brunch. I also had scrambled eggs, fried hard with cheese and bacon. My mom had sausage patties, scrambled eggs, hash browns and a pancake. I would go again. The food wasn’t to heavy so when we left we didn't feel overstuffed. It was a pleasant experience.
