Surf Lanai
About
Coastal Elegance at the Pink Palace
Stepping onto the open-air terrace of the Royal Hawaiian, you are immediately greeted by the rhythmic sound of crashing waves against the Waikiki shoreline. Surf Lanai captures the essence of classic Honolulu luxury, set against a backdrop of iconic flamingo-pink architecture that has defined this stretch of the Pacific coast for nearly a century.
A Morning Ritual Under the Palms
The breakfast service here is a local institution. The signature Pink Palace Pancakes are a must-try, arriving at the table tinted with house-made Haupia sauce and topped with local macadamia nuts. It is the perfect spot for those who want to start their day with a view of Diamond Head in the distance while feeling the consistent, cooling trade winds characteristic of our island climate.
Atmosphere and Nuance
Expect a refined yet relaxed environment where service is paced to match the slow roll of the ocean. It is an ideal setting for celebratory brunches or a quiet morning coffee away from the dense bustle of the main Waikiki strip. Be aware that during peak holiday seasons, the terrace fills up quickly, and the proximity to the beach means that the occasional wandering seabird might take a keen interest in your toast—a small, charming price to pay for such a prime oceanfront vantage point.
Whether you are a visitor seeking the quintessential Oahu experience or a resident craving a slice of historic Honolulu, the kitchen leans into fresh, tropical ingredients that define modern Hawaiian dining. It remains a timeless choice for anyone looking to slow down and savor the scenery.

The food was good. The coffee was good. The service provided by Elaine was AMAZING! She made my experience the best! She was welcoming, fast, and very friendly. Ask for Elaine if you come for breakfast and you won't be disappointed!

We didn’t stay at the Royal Hawaiian but we did eat at the restaurant (two times). The PINK 💕 Pancakes are so YUMMY!!! I don’t even like pancakes and they were so good. The pancakes are topped with coconut flakes, sweetened with berries and slight dollop of whipped cream. We also had a Denver omelette and coffee. Service was great and food was fabulous!

We had no problem being seated at 9:15 for breakfast. The Restaurant was lively with most tables seated or being reset. We shared a papaya platter, Short rib Benedict, and a keiki pancake with bacon. The food was really good with the pancakes being exceptional. What really stood out was the service. Grayson was always there to assist with refills and service. A visit to the table by the manager Keenan made it even better. They made breakfast a lovely experience and I would highly recommend the restaurant as a treat for yourself and others if you're looking for something better than good. It was a wonderful meal and a great way to start your morning.

The pink pancakes at the Pink Palace of the Pacific, what more could you ask for on the world’s most famous beach? This was an absolute delightful breakfast. We saved it for our last morning in Waikiki and looked forward to it all week. After an early morning surf, we hit the restaurant and enjoyed three orders of the Pink Pancakes. They were garnished so beautifully and had all these fancy little touches. Take a little bit of the magic home with Pink Pancake Mix from the Royal Hawaiian Bakery further inside the hotel.

We ate at the bar since they were so busy. The bartenders were attentive and quick. The pink pancakes surprised us! We thought they would be atypical but found out they were scrumptious!! The coffee was actually quite good as well - Kona blend.

Can’t be beat. Historic hotel and classic dining on the beach. To be at the grand ole hotel is something special to me. I wish the pulled pork hash was still on the menu. Oh, well! I still ate well.

Phenomenal breakfast with views of Waikiki. There’s a huge selection for breakfast and the staff were super attentive and helpful. We loved that you can sit under umbrellas while you wait for your table, the pink pancakes, presentation, and local dishes.

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Hawaii. They offer the most amazing breakfast, and that stack of scrumptious pink pancakes is every foodie's dream come true. I have been counting down the days for the past two years to reunite my taste buds with this delectable plate of food, and I was not disappointed. I savored every last crumb. I will be dreaming about this breakfast until my next trip to Hawaii. I highly recommend the Surf Lanai restaurant—10 out of 10! The food is absolutely amazing, and the service is truly exceptional. You have gained a lifelong customer, Surf Lanai. XOXO

I absolutely loved my experience here! The food was delicious. The views were idyllic, and I love the design of the restaurant with all of the pink umbrellas. I ordered the pink pancakes and salmon lox bagel. It’s also fun to walk around the hotel while you’re waiting for your table or after you eat.
