Sun's Up, Hawaii
About
Start Your Morning with Island Flavor
Stepping into Sun's Up, Hawaii feels less like a typical breakfast joint and more like a quiet corner of a local Honolulu kitchen. You won't find the aggressive tourist rush here; instead, the space centers on simple, island-inspired comfort food that prioritizes fresh ingredients over complicated presentation. It is the kind of spot where the coffee is always pouring and the pace is decidedly relaxed.
Authentic Island Staples
The menu highlights local favorites, with heavy emphasis on Hawaiian breakfast classics like loco moco and expertly prepared Portuguese sausage. Their take on these staples relies on a savory, hearty profile that satisfies before a long day at the beach. You can smell the searing meat from the grill the moment the door swings open, mingling with the scent of dark-roast coffee. For those craving something sweet, their pancake stacks often feature local tropical fruit infusions that change with the seasonal availability found throughout the Honolulu area.
Practical Local Dining
The setting is modest and functional, designed for locals who want a solid meal without the frills. One minor observation: the space is intimate, so don't be surprised if you end up brushing shoulders with a regular grabbing their morning newspaper. Seating can fill up quickly during the weekend morning rush, so arriving early is the best way to claim a table. It remains an ideal stop for anyone searching for an unfussy, reliable breakfast that anchors your morning in the heart of Hawaii's capital city.

They open really late, until 1 a.m. every night, which is great for late-night eats. It’s just across the street from the Alohilani Hotel and right around the corner from the bikini burger food truck. The woman working here is not as friendly as the girl working at the bikini burger place, but this place is Korean, so I think that’s about as friendly as they get lol. The most popular items are the garlic shrimp and the Kalbi, and according to her, the steak is New York strip.

Great flavors, generous portions, and a relaxing local vibe. Highly recommend checking them out. Steak Plate ($23.75) Grilled steak sliced over hot white rice, served with a side salad. Packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. BBQ Chicken Plate ($21.75) Smoky barbecue chicken glazed in a sweet and savory shoyu-based sauce with hints of garlic, ginger, and brown sugar. Served over hot white rice with a side salad.

I heard some good things about it so decided to check out O'Sun Grill food truck. I decided on the salt and pepper shrimp. You might think it's a little pricey at $23 but I got my money's worth. 7 large, delicious, head on shrimp! The white rice was perfectly cooked. Plus a salad. I brought it back to the apartment and are it with a beer. Only the shrimp tails remained. I was stuffed.
