Subway - Honolulu (Waialae Ave Kahala Mall)
About
Quick Bites in the Heart of Honolulu
Finding a reliable, fast meal amidst the humidity and hustle of Honolulu often leads locals and travelers toward the familiar glow of this sandwich shop. Positioned perfectly for those cruising toward the beach or heading out of the busy Ala Moana district, this spot provides a predictable stop for a customizable lunch.
The Classic Counter Experience
The scent of freshly baked bread—that unmistakable, slightly sweet aroma that fills the air the moment you walk through the doors—anchors the sensory experience here. It is a straightforward, no-nonsense setup where you dictate the flow, from selecting the multi-grain or Italian herbs and cheese loaves to loading up on crisp shredded lettuce, cucumbers, and pickles. If you find yourself craving the iconic Italian B.M.T. or a simple turkey breast sub, the efficiency is exactly what you expect.
Local Nuance
While the service is quick, be prepared for the typical midday rush; the queue can occasionally spill near the entrance during peak lunch hours. It is an ideal pitstop if you are looking for a portable meal to take to a nearby park or back to your hotel room. The seating is modest and utilitarian, designed for people on the move rather than long, lingering conversations. Whether you are grabbing a meal before hitting the surf or needing a dependable bite between appointments, this Honolulu fixture stays true to the global formula that makes grabbing a cold cut combo effortless.

Today, tues Oct 7,2025 i went to subway kahala mall around 330pm. There was a lady named either:Erlinda or Berlinda working. I went to order sandwiches. Im only person in line. Lady says she would help me. I ask to order sandwiches. She told me come to her she can help me. I told her i want to order sandwiches for my neighbor, my family member, and me. I said i have coupons. She told me they dont accept all coupons. Only 2 coupons: 6 inch and footlong coupons. I ask why. I rip coupon out to use. I ask to make sandwich. Lady Erlinda/Berlinda told me i have to go to back of line, ill be served after everyone else. I ask why. I tell her and she told me go to back of line and will serve me after everyone else in line. I said outloud i was here before everyone else in this line i ask to order sandwiches you told me come see you and you can help me and then you wont take my coupons and telling me go to back of line and will serve me after everyone else in line is served. I ask to speak to manager. She said hes not here. You can come back when hes working but she wont tell me when hes working when i asked. another lady employee that was nicer help make sandwich for me.

The portion is too small compared to other places. Way less veggies.

Honestly, i know it’s just a subway but this location just tastes really clean, ingredients are fresh as well. That’s probably why there’s always a line here.

Waited in line 25 minutes to be told no multi grain bread. Chose flatbread which even after toasting was frozen in parts.

I eat there a few times a week sometimes and have never had problems with them. Good portions and nice people. UPDATE: Recently noticed that sometimes when I order on the mobile app and add more than 1 cookie they will only give 1 cookie. I let it slip the first few times as mistakes happen but this is atleast the 5th time its happened and it's starting to get annoying. Also been a few times where I ordered deluxe/double meat and got the normal portions, whats up with that?

Dumpy with poor service. Will not go back. Go to the Subway on the mall perimeter 200 yards away for much better service and atmosphere or go to Jimmy John's.

Bought my sub for lunch break and got a 1-foot instead of 6-inch and got to keep the full sub at no extra charge! Coming for more as sub was delicious!

Employees didn't know ingredients included in sandwich price, upcharge for every vegetable and no water available, only pay for bottled water. I've been to hundreds of subways across the country and this was the worst experience of all time. Broken chairs, dirty tables, dirty floor, old boxes in the dining room. This location is fired. 0/10 do not recommend.
