Straits Restaurant And Lounge
About
A Modern Southeast Asian Escape in Waikiki
Stepping into Straits Restaurant and Lounge feels like finding a high-energy pocket of Singaporean nightlife right in the heart of Honolulu. The space balances a slick, contemporary aesthetic with the warm, humid energy of the islands, making it a go-to spot for those who want their dinner paired with a heavy dose of cosmopolitan flair. You will hear the sharp clinking of glassware and upbeat lounge tracks competing with the rhythmic conversation of a crowd that clearly loves to dress up for the evening.
Signature Spice and Culinary Fusion
Chef Chris Yeo’s vision for the menu centers on the bold, aromatic complexity of Southeast Asian street food elevated for the modern palate. The signature Singapore Chili Crab remains the undisputed star here; it is messy, vibrant, and demands your full attention as you tackle the shells with your hands. Don’t shy away from the roti prata, which arrives with a steam-filled fragrance of toasted flour and buttery ghee, perfect for soaking up the lingering, spice-heavy sauces of the main courses.
The Honolulu Nightlife Pulse
If you are looking for a place to celebrate or kick off a night out, this is it. While the bar program is sophisticated—featuring plenty of lemongrass-infused spirits and ginger cocktails—be prepared for the decibel levels to rise as the night progresses. It is not the place for a quiet, whispered business meeting, but it excels as a high-octane venue for groups who prioritize a lively scene. Keep in mind that finding parking in this part of Honolulu can be a tight squeeze, so consider arriving via a ride-share to keep the transition from the bustling streets to the cool, moody lounge interior seamless.

This restaurant looks cool at night. It is not very large and there's separate area for adults at the "bar" to eat and drink. I really enjoy their Hainan Chicken. This place is best if you can enjoy lots of spice. Free parking in any of the Ward parking garages.

Food quality: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Don't skip on: The Beef Rendang Straits was a surprisingly delicious meal and such a fun and trendy restaurant! In the heart of the Waikiki shopping center, this restaurant offers pan Asian cuisine with great flavors! The staff was very nice and welcoming and the restaurant was clean from what saw. We ordered the Beef Rendang, garlic noodles, dry fried eggplant, Hainanese chicken, coconut pandan soda, and the milk and honey cocktail. Everything was delicious! Can’t wait to go back!

Went there for dinner about 8.15pm on a friday night. Very pretty. Staff were friendly. As soon as we walked in a member of staff can over and seated us. Another came over straight away with menus. There were tables outside too. There were a couple of items on the menu not available which was annoying because they were what I wanted to order but it wasn't an issue. Whilst we were waiting we noticed that a few tables hadn't been cleaned or set up. It wasn't busy considering it was a friday. Our food was nice. I ordered wings and fries and my sister ordered steak. The waiter came over with more wings and said "oh you already have wings." Then took it back to the open kitchen they had made extra wings, oops. They placed them in a takeaway box and left them on the unit. The bar tender was our waitress too. She was going back and forth.

Great selection of delicious Singaporean and Malaysian food. We ordered a bunch of dishes (See pics and videos below) and everything pretty much hits. They also have a great selection of cocktails, spirits and NA beverages. Atmosphere, it was quite dark. I think the place turns into a club after. But otherwise before dark, it's family friendly. A little hard to hear people cux of the music but okay overall. Great place for a date or a group dinner.

Straits Restaurant impresses with its: - Exceptional dishes, expertly prepared and presented -Innovative Fusion food, blending Asian flavors with a twist - Charming atmosphere, perfect for a special night out However, the service falls short: - Efficient, but lacking warmth and genuine hospitality. Also had to seek attention by asking if they’re open to be seated. Overall, a great choice for foodies, but with potential for improvement.

Straight. To. The. Point. This is a really cool spot. The atmosphere (could be considered loud) and service are legit.. appetizer (chicken lollipop) was 5 ⭐️ (pictured). The main courses were also above average (Wok noodle plate is 🔥).. however, they are quite spicy (I love spicy). *Table next to us kicked back their steak because the marinade had too much spice (per the chef) - the waiter did comp their meal. Main reason I’m grading this overall experience as a 4.5ish was due to the cost and quality of the drinks. If you’re going to be an exotic lounge with a unique portfolio of cocktails.. they have to either a) be great or b) be right priced. I think this place will excel over time.. this spot opened two months ago (other location is in San Jose). Recommend giving it a go 🤘🏽

Our expectations were high and it started out a little rocky when we sat with no contact from any server for the first 15 minutes we were in the restaurant. Once we got someone’s attention (happened to be the manager), service improved dramatically. We ordered and our food came out super fast. It was all delicious but my highlight was the Wok Fried Mussels, which they ended up comping us (thank you!).
