Square Barrels
About
A Haven for Hop-Heads in Downtown Honolulu
Tucked away near the bustling heart of downtown Honolulu, Square Barrels has cultivated a loyal following by keeping things simple: exceptional craft beer and burgers that prioritize quality over gimmicks. The atmosphere is industrial-chic, dominated by an extensive tap list that rotates frequently, featuring local Hawaiian brews alongside rare mainland imports.
The Burger Philosophy
The kitchen is serious about their patties. The signature 'Square Burger' features a custom grind that provides a rich, savory depth, often paired with house-made pickles that offer a sharp, vinegary crunch to cut through the fat. You won't find frozen pre-formed disks here; the staff handles every order with a precision that borders on obsessive. If you’re feeling adventurous, look for their seasonal offerings that frequently incorporate local ingredients like Kula onions or house-made bacon jam.
What to Expect
Expect a high-energy room where the conversation is punctuated by the steady clink of pint glasses. It is an ideal spot for an after-work unwind or a weekend ritual before hitting the nearby nightlife district. A small note for visitors: the space can get quite loud during peak hours on Friday nights, and parking in this pocket of the city requires a bit of strategic planning in nearby municipal lots, but the reward of a perfectly poured IPA makes the logistical effort worth it.
Whether you are a casual fan of a classic cheeseburger or a dedicated beer enthusiast tracking down a specific barrel-aged stout, Square Barrels delivers a consistent, unpretentious experience that resonates with the local food scene.

Came for drinks, didn't get any food but would come back to try. The bartenders were very nice and attentive. They have trivia night on Tuesdays starting at 630pm so it's a little crowded then but fun.

Mouthwatering burgers and crisp fries! Can’t go wrong with that combo! I hadn’t been to Square Barrels in years and man have I been missing out! The burgers were very flavorful and the buns were so nice and soft, but also still had that nice little crispness on the edges. I will not wait years to visit again.😅

The Wagyu burger was just O.K. Nothing to write home about. Certainly not worth 20 bucks... And 8 more dollars for fries with truffle oil... Meh. Don't get me wrong O ate everything, but I won't go back. The beer selection was really good. Lots of local brew on tap.

Love this place. Yummy burgers. Truffle fries ... yes! Great assortment of beers. Parking can be validated. Price can be steep for the burgers but they are so worth the price. Order the Wagyu burger. So ono. Staff and service is great!!!

It's best if you get a reservation. The food was enjoyable and the beer selection was satisfying. I'm a cider drinker myself and they had a pineapple cider which is top notch.

Wagyu beef burger was delicious the fries were bomb. Everyone I went with said their food was great. They had comedy night as well which was kinda of cool. Waiter was fast. I would recommend making reservations if going on a busy night as they don't have a ton of seating. Beer and drink menu was massive.

Been wanting to try this place for awhile now. The wait was worth it. The service was very good, bartenders and the wait staff was very accommodating. Beer selection is on point. 50+ craft beers either on tap or bottled. I went with a chimay blue, very nice. Food was excellent. I had the Wagyu burger and buddy had the cheesesteak. Both where very good. Prices seemed on point for Hawaii. Definitely be back for another burger or have to try that cheesesteak. Well done guys.

This is the 2nd time I've been here and I always love what I order. Last time, I got the lamb chops, which I thought was great. I had the wagyu burger this time and absolutely loved it. The serving is quite big so don't order appetizers unless you have people to help you eat it. Or order. It's worth it the weight. They have a good selection of drinks, as well.

Pretty good gastropub type setting. The selection of beer and whiskey is pretty impressive. The food was pretty good too. The only thing I was not impressed with was the charcuterie platter. It was more like a cutting board of random deli meats than craft meat makings.
