Spice Up House of Indian Cuisine
About
A Bold Escape from the Honolulu Hustle
Tucked away from the bustling tourist corridors of Waikiki, Spice Up House of Indian Cuisine brings a distinct, aromatic energy to the Honolulu dining scene. Walking through the doors, the first thing that hits you is the heavy, comforting scent of blooming cardamom and toasted cumin, a sharp contrast to the salty Pacific breeze waiting outside. The space is modest and utilitarian, prioritizing function over flash, which means you’ll often find yourself leaning in closer to your dining companions to chat over the ambient hum of the kitchen.
Signature Spice Profiles
The kitchen leans into Northern Indian traditions, where the richness of cream-based gravies meets the sharp bite of high-heat tandoor cooking. The Chicken Tikka Masala here is a masterclass in balance, offering a velvety tomato base that avoids the cloying sweetness found in lesser kitchens. Their Garlic Naan is consistently pulled from the oven with a blackened char that adds a necessary bitterness to cut through the buttery dough. If you are adventurous, the Lamb Rogan Josh is the standout; the meat is consistently fork-tender, swimming in a sauce that carries a deep, complex warmth lingering long after the meal ends.
Local Dining Logistics
Because the shop is situated in a high-traffic urban pocket of Oahu, parking can be a bit of a localized sport. Come prepared to circle the block or opt for a ride-share if you intend to pair your dinner with their robust mango lassis. It is the kind of place best suited for those who value authenticity of flavor over white-tablecloth presentation. Whether you are a local resident craving a genuine spice hit or a traveler weary of standard island fare, this kitchen delivers a raw, unpretentious experience that feels remarkably grounded in its culinary roots.

Very tasty lunch was served. Perfect portions and not extremely spicy. All the flavors of the dishes were amazing. Must try the chicken Tikka masala curry with naan.

Incredible food and service here! Staff was super friendly and accommodating, and everything on the menu feels very reasonably priced for the portions and quality that you get. The parking situation can sometimes be tricky depending on when you go, but it will definitely be worth it!

Spice Up House of Indian Cuisine offers good food and a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly and polite, which made for a pleasant dining experience overall. That said, while the food was enjoyable, it didn’t quite stand out as the best Indian spot on the island. Service could also use a bit more attentiveness as our water wasn’t refilled often, and we weren’t checked on much after the food was served. It was also difficult to spot the entrance to the parking lot behind the building so I took a picture of it here. Overall, it’s a solid choice if you’re in the area and craving Indian food, and with a little more attention to service, it could be even better.
