Bangkok Energy in the Heart of Chinatown

Stepping into this corner of Smith Street feels like a quick transit to the bustling markets of Thailand. The air inside is thick with the scent of toasted chili, fresh lime, and the char of a high-heat wok. Unlike the polished tourist spots along Waikiki, this Honolulu haunt embraces the gritty, authentic charm of its historic surroundings. It is a loud, unapologetic space where the clatter of metal ladles against pans provides a constant, rhythmic soundtrack.

Bold Flavors, Zero Pretense

The menu leans heavily into the punchy, acidic, and spicy profiles synonymous with authentic street fare. Fans of the kitchen frequently point toward their Pad Thai, which manages to balance sweetness and tamarind tang without leaning into the cloying versions found elsewhere. If you have a high heat tolerance, the som tum (papaya salad) is prepared with a fierce dedication to traditional spice levels that will wake up your palate immediately.

It is the kind of place meant for casual weeknight dinners when you want big flavor without the fanfare of white tablecloths. Be prepared for a bit of a challenge when finding a spot to park; the narrow streets of Chinatown require some patience. The seating is modest and tight, mirroring the compact kitchens of Bangkok, making it best suited for friends who don’t mind bumping elbows while passing plates of basil chicken and sticky rice across the table. It is an honest, straightforward kitchen that prioritizes the bite over the decor, serving as a staple for those seeking a genuine Thai fix in downtown Honolulu.

Came for late lunch, order 3 items, the short rib paneng, crispy pork ribs, and pork neck. The crispy pork ribs ($17) were awesome, crispy fresh and tasty, slightly sweet. The pork neck ($16) was nicely presented, very fatty, tasty, served with a sweet and spicy sauce. The beef short rib paneng was tasty but it was a small serving for $26. Literally maybe 10 small chunks of beef with a little bit of sauce. It was very tasty just the portion we got for $26 was unbefitting. Also got turmeric rice which was tasty and went well with everything. I enjoyed how all the dishes are all shareable portions. Service was great and attentive, also wasn't too at 1:30pm on a weekday. Atmosphere was clean and welcoming.

Unfortunately, my husband and I didn’t have a good experience here. We ordered the shrimp fried rice and the pork wraps and were very disappointed. The pork wraps were basically lettuce wraps with very little pork for $15. The shrimp fried rice tasted good, but it only had about five shrimp for $22. We left still hungry and had to find food somewhere else afterward. The waitress was nice, but she seemed overwhelmed as she was the only one working. To make things worse, there was a small cockroach walking on the wall behind me. There were also no restrooms available. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place and honestly don’t understand the 4.8-star rating.

Best Thai I've tasted on Oahu. Definitely tastier than a lot of places in Thailand. Dumplings were fresh noodle pi. Basil rried rice was bomb! Met one of the lovely owners, originally from Bangkok. A little pricey, for portion size, but so good it didn't matter- as the quality was there. Great food please support them!

The owner is beautiful and sincere, and really makes you feel welcomed. She's a former JAL flight attendant and spoke Japanese to my visiting friends 🥰 Everything on the menu is delicious but I especially love the pork neck, the beef carpaccio, the crispy pork ribs and the buttery eggplant! The restaurant is always lively and fun, probably because it's BYOB 😉 Definitely go with a group so you can try lots of dishes! * I love that they use fresh veggies like long beans and okra in their green curry instead of canned bamboo shoots!

We went for lunch and was pleasantly surprised on how aroi mak the food was, it took me back to Thailand for a brief moment. Pork neck was grilled to perfection, koa kling wrap was refreshing, Khao Soi Ramen made me feel like I was eating in Chang Mai, and the buttery eggplant excellent!! Food was very authentic, we loved it because it wasn’t sweet. I highly recommend SingSing!!! We will be back!!!

Awesome Thai food. BYOB. Service was friendly and attentive, and everything we tried was delicious. Especially the chicken satay and crispy pork belly with rice. Butter eggplant was also great. Beef tongue was a bit tough.

We had the best experience tonight at Sing Sing. From the moment we walked in we were warmly welcomed by our server who gave us some good recommendations. I ordered the green curry with a side of roti (best roti I’ve had) and we also ordered pad Thai and fried rice. The green curry was SO good and perfectly spiced. My son was adamant he ‘doesn’t like Thai food’ and sat there watching us devour our delicious dinner. The chef noticed and came over to ask what she could make him to put a smile on his face. She came out with a plate of delicious potatoes and chicken! He loved it and yes, it did put a smile on his face. Outstanding service and fantastic Thai food! Don’t miss it.

Sing Sing is a cute little Thai spot tucked right into Chinatown Honolulu, and walking in feels like stepping into a cozy street-food corner somewhere in Bangkok. The décor has that playful, colorful charm that instantly puts you in a good mood. Food-wise, everything we tried was delicious with good portions. Just the two of us ordered multiple dishes because everything looked too tempting to skip—and honestly, they were all solid. The flavors lean a little on the sweeter side, but still tasty and satisfying. Service was friendly and attentive, and the unexpected bonus? BYOB—always a win. A fun, flavorful stop if you’re craving Thai comfort with a street-market vibe right in the heart of Honolulu.

The food here blew me away! Aromatic, full of great textures, and packed with bold Thai street-food flavors you rarely find. The service was just as wonderful: warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. I left happy and already planning my next visit! I am highly recommending to anyone I know!
