Sik Do Rak Restaurant
About
A Masterclass in Korean Charcoal Grilling
Stepping into Sik Do Rak, the air is thick with the savory, smoky aroma of seasoned galbi hitting a hot grill. Located in the bustling landscape of Honolulu’s Kalihi district, this spot is a destination for those who prioritize meat quality over polished décor. The interior is utilitarian, designed entirely around the central mission of fire-kissed proteins and communal dining.
The Art of the Table-Side Sear
The menu highlights traditional Korean BBQ staples, with their marinated beef ribs often cited by locals as the gold standard. You aren't just ordering dinner; you are participating in the process. The staff arrives with glowing charcoal, ensuring the intense heat necessary to achieve that signature caramelized char on the edges of the beef. Expect an array of banchan—spicy kimchi, pickled radishes, and bean sprouts—to arrive before your main course, balancing the richness of the meats with sharp, acidic bites.
Navigating the Kalihi Experience
This is a place for groups who don’t mind a bit of chaos. The noise level rises as the night goes on, with the clinking of metal chopsticks and the hiss of fat rendering into embers. It is raw, authentic, and unapologetic. Be prepared for the parking situation; the lot can get cramped during peak dinner hours, so arriving slightly before the evening rush is a smart move for a smoother transition from your car to your table. If you want a refined, quiet evening, look elsewhere. If you want the most authentic Korean grill experience in Oahu, this is where you go.

The restaurant menu after 4 pm focuses on All u can eat BBQ w/rice, broccoli, bean sprouts, and kim chee. The mamasaans are quick,, efficient and in return they expect a tip. The meal is priced at $30 for all you can eat meat. They have a wide selection of meats and they deliver the amounts not based on weight but the number of people. There are no extra upcharges. Anything more than the sides, and rice are extra. They are open until 4 am.

We came here for all you can eat dinner. It’s located in a small street with many other restaurants. Uber of Lyft is recommended as there is little parking spaces. There are many choices for meat but what I noticed is that most tables, that order the beef brisket, ends up with a huge plate that they must finish so not to waste food. If you order various meat, you might end up with too much meat and wasting it. Beef brisket (#3), beef bulgoki (#10 highly recommended) and beef short ribs (#1) were good. The seasoned squid (not calamari) is too chewy. The pork belly (#7) takes too much time to cook. Shrimp wasn’t that great. The waitress will replace the cooking plate two/three times so you don’t cook with burned plates. Maybe half of the Kimchi cups were refilled but I think all of them should have been refilled at least once. Don’t pour oil on the cooking plate but on the meat. Overall we were happy to try Korean ayce.

Today I got to try their soft tofu stew and it was only $11.95 and great. The side dishes also tasted great. The lady working there is so friendly and helpful.
