About
A Refreshing Stop in Salt Lake
Tucked away near the bustling thoroughfares of Salt Lake, Shaka Shaka Tea Express offers a reliable escape from the humid Honolulu sun. It is a straightforward, no-frills spot where the focus remains entirely on the drink in your hand rather than overblown interior design. The air is consistently thick with the sweet, toasted aroma of black tea leaves and the rhythmic sound of shakers working in overtime.
Customized Flavor Profiles
What sets this local favorite apart is the granular level of control offered to the customer. Whether you are craving a classic house milk tea or experimenting with distinct fruit-based infusions, the customization options for sugar levels and ice intensity are precise. The boba pearls consistently hit the mark—firm enough to provide a chew, yet soft enough to absorb the flavor of the milk base. It is an ideal pit stop for students or commuters passing through the neighborhood who need a quick, reliable caffeine or sugar kick.
Local Observations
While the drinks are excellent, be prepared for a bit of a localized quirk: the parking lot serving this plaza can get quite tight during lunch hours. It is the type of place where you grab your drink and head back out to enjoy it under the island sky, rather than looking for a quiet corner to linger. If you find yourself navigating the central districts of Honolulu and need a thirst-quencher that feels authentically grounded in local culture, this is a staple of the area's beverage scene.

Great Smoothies. They use real fruit I think which makes it taste even better. If I lived over here I would go here quite often. The only downside of the store is that when it is hot, it is so hot in the store. Nowhere to sit and wait for the drinks but the people working are quick and kind and helpful.

Staff was super friendly. I got the Mango Milk Tea with black tea. Sooooo delicious. Clearly they use fresh Mango ingredients. I will be back. No seating inside but plenty outside. They also sell various food items and snacks. Update: I have come back several times now and the drinks continue to be great! Fresh watermelon in the drinks, not that syrup powder stuff others use. Staff is always exceptional with Aloha. If it's a line be patient. It's worth the wait.

Mango green tea is delish, also like the Taro milk tea with just Taro chunks. Boba is always cooked perfect. Overall very yummy. Also like the fact that they use real fruit

This place was okay, we didn’t get anything crazy. They do need to do something about the fish tank. Clearly has not been cleaned for a LONG time and it’s absolutely disgusting with the fish living in it. The tank wasn’t even plugged in so that filter wasn’t operating. They need to clean it out or just re-home those fish because they shouldn’t be living in that condition.

Fresh fruit drinks and tea. I love their drinks and smoothies. Their last popular drinks are the pineapple teas and their fruit smoothies. Check to see what fruit is in season. However I’m not a fan of their boba which is gummy. Their service is usually not very friendly and because I kept forgetting my stamp card, I got a bunch but they don’t allow you to combine them which doesn’t make sense. Because of their service, I would give them a 3.5.

They use fresh fruits and not powder like most places that sell Boba. Everything I’ve I gotten is very delicious, Coconut milk smoothie, dragonfruit & Soursop, Avocado & Banana, Taro & Coconut. You can mix and match flavors as well. It’s very good, especially because of the fresh fruits they use.

Writing a review now because I miss this place so much! I used to work here and loved it. The lady who would make the drinks is such a hard worker and worked nearly all day every day, at least while I worked there for almost 2 years. She made the best drinks. Their ingredients are in fact all natural, even down to the coconuts they hand crack in the back. My husband’s favorite was the coconut milk smoothie and mine was the watermelon smoothie with cappuccino cream and boba. And the purple sweet potato smoothie whenever it was in season. It’s going to be hard finding a place that even compares to this place 💔 hope to visit soon.

Open doors and not busy with only one person in front of me. Love that they use fresh fruit! I had a large Pineapple Lemon Tea with boba. The boba is the perfect consistency, not mushy at all and lots of small pieces of pineapple.
