About
A Kaimuki Institution for Local Comfort
Stepping into S&P Kitchen feels like walking into a friend’s kitchen in the heart of Honolulu. Located in the charming Kaimuki neighborhood, this spot is a go-to for residents seeking straightforward, no-nonsense local grinds. The air is thick with the scent of savory oyster sauce and sizzling oil, a clear signal that the woks are working overtime.
The Flavors of Island Comfort
Chef-driven technique takes a backseat to pure, high-heat comfort here. The menu is a love letter to Cantonese-style local cuisine, anchored by signature dishes like their salt and pepper pork chops. These crispy, savory bites provide a satisfying crunch that hits hard alongside their famous clay pot rice dishes. The steam rising from the pots fills the room with the earthy fragrance of ginger, scallions, and Chinese sausage.
What to Expect
This isn't a place for white-tablecloth service; it is a space defined by high-energy chatter, the constant clatter of metal ladles against seasoned carbon steel, and a bustling, informal pace. Be prepared for the reality of dining in a popular, compact space where the tables are packed close together—it’s part of the authentic charm. Parking in the surrounding Kaimuki streets requires a bit of patience, but for a plate of steaming, authentic comfort food that feels grounded in Honolulu’s diverse culinary history, the trade-off is well worth it.

Only complaint is that they are only open for lunch during the week! Wish they would be open for dinner or at least on the weekend. The food is great and 100% authentic. Nice small menu, but they have all of the typical thai dishes and different spice levels. Everything we had was great. It's also a really convenient option if you are looking to get lunch on Fort Shafter and don't want subway. It's less than a 5 minute walk from the side gate

Asked for Pad Thai with no tofu and it was still added, so sad about that because this isn’t the first time and one of the people who wanted pad Thai can not eat tofu. The spicy basil was very dry absolutely no juice for me to dip the sticky rice. This use to be one of my favorite stops for lunch but lately they have been very inconsistent.

S&P has set the bar high, serving up the best authentic Thai food at reasonably priced found on Oahu. Service was exceptional and the food ordered were so delicious! We really enjoyed our visit and good vibes! Thank you Sam! JT/SL Frequent Canadian visitor to Honolulu
