Roy's Waikiki Beach
About
A Legacy of Hawaiian Fusion
Roy Yamaguchi’s flagship concept brings a polished touch to the Honolulu dining scene. This is where Hawaiian fusion was essentially born, moving away from traditional expectations to embrace a blend of fresh Pacific catch and classic European techniques. The open kitchen layout fills the dining room with the rhythmic clatter of pans and the unmistakable scent of searing butter and ginger, creating an environment that feels both sophisticated and energetic.
Signature Flavors by the Shore
You cannot visit without experiencing the iconic blackened island ahi. The dish arrives with a spicy soy mustard butter sauce that balances perfectly with the firm, ruby-red tuna. It is a bold, flavor-forward choice that explains why this location remains a staple for those visiting the Waikiki coastline. The menu changes frequently to reflect seasonal catches from local waters, ensuring that the fish on your plate likely arrived at the docks only hours earlier.
The Waikiki Experience
The atmosphere is best suited for celebratory dinners or travelers looking for a high-end introduction to local ingredients. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer glimpses of the passing crowds, connecting you to the pulse of the island. Be prepared for a lively, high-decibel environment during peak sunset hours, as the energy in the room rises alongside the cocktail service. While the valet line can get a bit backed up when the evening rush hits, the transition from the bustling sidewalk into the cool, climate-controlled dining room is well worth the minor wait.

Had a wonderful dinner at Roy's Waikiki. The presentation of the dishes is beautiful, and the customer service is really good—the staff goes out of their way to take care of you. The Food: The short ribs are absolutely incredible and a must-order. The pasta is also really delicious! Overall, the food is excellent and beautifully plated. Price: The prices are kind of up there, but for the high-quality food and top-tier service in Waikiki, it’s well worth it for a nice night out. A fantastic dining experience from start to finish!

Amazing food and service! I loved the canoe sampler, especially the shrimp and spicy ahi tempura roll. I had the butterfish and my husband had the duck. Both were delicious.

Excellent, upscale food experience. The flavors were complex yet made a lot of sense. The kanpachi crudo was my most favorite. It was so uniquely tasty. The butterfish and the garlic parmesan shrimp and crab ravioli were also amazing! Might be my best meal in Oahu!

Roy’s is a great restaurant. There is no question about that. The problem is with a such a “classic” restaurant there are crowd pleaser pot holes that are ok but not amazing. That’s the rub. Of our six dishes two of them were very good. Five star quality. The rest were very good but not amazing. The drinks were fantastic. Can’t go wrong as advertise. Service fantastic. I will also say that for a rest of this quality it’s being graded on a little bit of a curve as a bill for six people is over $600.

Delayed review, but worth posting. We had a pre-holiday meal here in December and wanted a special dinner before our sunset cruise. Roy’s did not disappoint. At first they were going to seat us outside for our reservation, but we wanted a quieter, more relaxing vibe instead of the bar/outdoor feel, so they seated us inside. That ended up being perfect. Every server was super friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about gluten free adjustments. What I really appreciated was that they didn’t just say “yes” to every possible modification. They actually guided us away from changes that could be made but would take the dish too far from what the chef intended or from the flavor experience. That was honestly unexpected, and very welcomed. Great meal, great service, and a really thoughtful approach to GF dining.

What a special place to celebrate our family's birthdays. The atmosphere is clean and very high class. Service was top tier with Collin our server giving us the insight to all what's amazing there. The food was prepared fresh and tasted amazing. Highly recommend.

Dinner at Roy’s Waikīkī was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked in, the staff was friendly and the service was top-notch—they truly make you feel welcome from start to finish. The food was exceptional across the board. We started with the Blue Crab Cakes, which were small yet fantastic. For the main course, we ordered a few different combos, which was the perfect way to taste multiple specialties: • Waikīkī Combo: The braised short ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the macadamia-encrusted mahi-mahi was fresh and flavorful. • Local Deluxe Combo: A massive highlight! The tempura shrimp, Szechuan ribs, hibachi salmon, and bacon California futomaki were all delicious and incredibly filling. We finished the night with the Roy’s Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé. It was the perfect ending—rich, decadent, and definitely lived up to the hype. If you’re looking for a high-quality, filling meal with impeccable service, Roy’s is a must!

I must have messed up my reservation, they were kind enough to take us. Although there really wasn’t many customers. Best thing we had was the sashimi wonton tacos. I usually don’t like raw food. But this was crazy delicious. The pork ribs were pretty delicious too. Everything else was not really that great. Of course we got the lava chocolate cake. It didn’t hold its shape so they gave us a free one for next time.

A+ all the way, from wait staff to food and drink. The waitstaff really know their stuff and can answer any question about the food and what's included. The menu is vast and has so many good options. We went for our anniversary and then, while at the table, booked a reservation for three nights later. We wanted to come back. The macadamia nut-encrusted fish (catch of the day, so it may change) was beyond amazing. The short ribs were spectacular, and their sushi is some of the best I have tasted. 100% recommend Roys. ps.. Chocolate Lava Cake w/Vanilla Ice Cream - WOW, just freaking amazing, gotta try it, we had it 2x (one is enough for two people)
