A Slice of History at the Pink Palace

Stepping into the Royal Hawaiian Bakery feels like walking through a portal to the golden age of Waikiki travel. Situated right within the iconic grounds of the historic Royal Hawaiian Hotel, this bakery draws its aesthetic from the famous 'Pink Palace of the Pacific.' It is an ideal stop for those strolling along the shoreline who want a quick, elegant bite without the formality of a sit-down brunch.

Signature Bites and Island Flavors

The display cases are a study in tropical refinement. You will find their signature Pink Snowball—a coconut-covered sponge cake that pays homage to the hotel’s rosy architecture—alongside an array of freshly baked goods like flaky guava danishes and house-made banana bread that captures the essence of Oahu’s lush landscape. The scent of toasted coconut and warm, buttery pastry hangs heavy in the air, offering a welcoming break from the salty ocean breeze just a few hundred yards away.

The Practical Side of Island Luxury

Because the shop is tucked inside such a high-traffic resort, space is at a premium. Expect to find a casual, grab-and-go setup rather than expansive seating. It is a fantastic spot for picking up a box of treats before heading out for a walk through the bustling streets of Honolulu or finding a quiet patch of sand nearby. Keep in mind that during peak morning hours, the line can snake back toward the lobby, so patience is a virtue here. Whether you are a guest of the hotel or a local seeking a nostalgic treat, the bakery provides a quick, sensory connection to one of the most storied properties in the Pacific.

I was lured in by the portugese sausage and royal custard croissants and they were delightful. The custard oozed out of the Royal custard ceoissant so remember napkins but the Portugese Sausage was a a true gift of an amazing bakery. It was worth a small 10 minute wait in line. The staff were REALLY quick with drink orders so I'll have to go back and try these amazing pastries again with a beverage next time.

I was pretty disappointed with both the drinks and the food, especially considering the reputation of Royal Hawaiian Bakery. I expected a bit more care and consistency. I’ve come back a few times mainly for the ambiance—it’s genuinely beautiful and relaxing in the morning, with rocking chairs and birds chirping all around. That part is hard to beat. Unfortunately, the drinks have been inconsistent. I ordered the macadamia nut latte several times and learned you have to specifically ask them to mix in the syrup, or it just sits at the bottom of your cup. Even when I did ask, they still didn’t mix it properly, which makes it feel like there isn’t much attention to detail. The food has been hit or miss. I really enjoyed the banana muffins, but the pink guava bundt cake was a letdown—it was extremely dry and lacked flavor to the point that I threw it away. The frosting was also mostly lost because it stuck to the paper bag during packaging, leaving behind a dry, crumbly cake. I’m not trying to be overly critical, and I’m sure this place will continue to be popular. I just wanted to share my experience so others can set realistic expectations rather than coming in expecting a top-tier coffee and bakery experience.

Such an amazing bakery to wake up and have breakfast at each day in this gorgeous hotel. If there’s a line don’t be afraid as it moves pretty quickly and the food is worth the weight. We’d love the coffee and croissants and all the delicious things to eat like quiche. There is seating located right in front with beautiful view of the hotel garden
