Restaurant Suntory
About
An Elegant Escape from the Waikiki Bustle
Perched above the busy thoroughfares of Royal Hawaiian Avenue, Restaurant Suntory offers a refined departure from the typical Honolulu tourist circuit. As you ascend into this serene space, the ambient noise of the beach district fades, replaced by the rhythmic clinking of cutlery and the focused grace of chefs working behind polished teppanyaki grills.
A Legacy of Japanese Craftsmanship
Since opening its doors, this establishment has maintained a reputation for meticulous presentation. The menu serves as a bridge between traditional Kyoto-style Kaiseki and the high-energy performance of teppanyaki. For those seeking the latter, watching the chef prepare premium Wagyu beef is a sensory masterclass; the sharp sizzle of sear meeting iron and the rich, buttery aroma of garlic butter filling the air define the experience.
The Kaiseki Ritual
If you prefer a quieter evening, the kaiseki offerings provide a sequence of seasonal flavors that honor the ingredients' natural state. Each plate is a miniature landscape, showcasing the precise knife work and seasonal sensibilities that the brand is known for globally. It is an ideal spot for anniversary dinners or quiet business conversations where the focus remains on the quality of the conversation and the precision of the cuisine.
Practical Observations
While the atmosphere is undeniably sophisticated, be prepared for a slightly slower pace of service—this is intentional, designed to let you linger over your sake. Finding parking in this section of Waikiki can be a persistent challenge, so planning for a nearby garage or valet is highly recommended before your reservation. Whether you are craving the indulgence of a multicourse seafood feast or a perfectly marbled steak, this spot remains a cornerstone of fine Japanese dining in the heart of the city.

Amazing food and amazing time. The omakase was out of this world. The different types of fis he used for the it was top notch. The liquor selection was amazing as well. I’m very satisfied, they even brought out extras for my bday.

This restaurant has several dining experiences you can choose from. My review is for the Omakase. Great service, very professional staff and delicious food; overall a fantastic dinning experience. I would come back any day and i would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and enjoyable Omakase in the heart of Waikiki.

Our first time at Restaurant Suntory was amazing! The food was absolutely delicious, especially the steak (and this is coming from someone who’s not a big red meat eater). My boyfriend and I were celebrating our one year and were gifted a cute cake and ice cream and I got a bouquet with real flowers! If you’re looking for your next date spot, Restaurant Suntory is the place to go.

New year celebration in a private room of the restaurant if the room is available and the food cost is minimum $500. Very good service by the waitress. We chose the set menu as it has pretty much items that we would like to try. It turned out we made a good choice with delicious dishes. As it was a birthday of one member, the restaurant did surprise us with a candle dessert and a small bouquet.

Five bright, shining stars all around! We were flying in from Kauai and our flight was delayed TWICE, and it was our last night on Oahu, so we were so grateful that the receptionists were flexible in pushing our dinner reservation back. Upon entering, there is a huge display of Japanese whiskeys. We were promptly seated, and I ordered the $85 Teppan and my BF ordered the $125 steak & lobster. Both meals include panko shrimp, veggies, and salmon. To our surprise, a tasting plate of thin roast beef slices and cheese was brought along with salads. Our entire meal was so flavorful that I did not add any shoyu or dip into the roasted garlic sauce. Also, the garlic fried rice with bits of egg and bacon was tasty all on its own. We both selected the 5 oz. Washu filets, and we were beyond satisfied. The grill master never once rushed us even though we were the last patrons of the night. The restaurant is divided into two elegant rooms: teppanyaki and sushi/sashimi.

I loved the vibe of the restaurant. Minimalist and classy. Overall, the meal was delicious! I had the chef's recommended course and could really taste the quality in the fish. Cocktails were amazing too. They have a wide selection of Japanese whiskey. The only thing off was, I ordered a freshly squeezed juice and was given a juicer to squeeze it myself. For $12, that was not worth it.
