Savor the Island Morning Ritual

Stepping into Prime Roast Cafe, you are immediately greeted by the rich, earthy aroma of beans undergoing the roasting process. Unlike the mass-produced coffee chains that dominate the urban landscape of Honolulu, this spot keeps things intimate and focused on the craft. The sound of the industrial roaster churning in the back provides a rhythmic backdrop to the soft hum of local chatter.

Small-Batch Perfection

This is where the community gathers for precision-poured drip coffee and expertly pulled shots of espresso. The roasters here favor a light-to-medium profile that highlights the distinct notes of the Hawaiian-grown beans they source. If you are looking for a place to sit with a book or catch up on emails before heading toward the beach, the window seats offer the best light and a prime view of the neighborhood pulse. The cafe maintains a minimalist, functional aesthetic that keeps the focus entirely on what is in your mug.

A Local Quirk

Be aware that space is at a premium here. During the morning rush, the flow of customers moving between the service counter and the door can get quite tight, turning a simple caffeine run into a bit of a dance. If you are heading out for a full day of surfing or hiking, grab your bag of beans to go—they are notoriously fresh and make for a great souvenir from the islands.

Dont walk RUN to this delicious cafe. Ok so parking can be a challange but where isnt in downtown. Staff super friendly, welcoming and effient. Place was clean which is always a plus. Ok now the food. I ordered the French dip thinking I would save half for my son HA!!! It was gone before i made it to tje Ala Moana Mall. Roll perfectʻy toasted, the beef was like butter(definitely a slight smoked flavour), I am not a Fan of smoked meat but this was so slight I cant wait to go back. The salad dressing was to die for. And the French Apple OMG . They said it takes 3 days to make. I would wait 3 weeks, months or years. YES it was that good. I am definitely gonna pick up a side hustle to pay for my new adiction! Mahalo for the Ono food

Just ordered from Uber eats for the first time. Everything looks great. I am enjoying all the vegetables so much I didn't even get to the meat yet but that looks good too ! I can tell everything is made with great care. I am so glad I tried this place today! 😌👍😋 I especially appreciate how carefully they packed everything for delivery... Lined the boxes with foil etc. Thank you so much... All those touches show how much you care. 🤗♥️🙏😌🍓

Lots of locally sourced ingredients used and cooked from scratch. The apple tart is ono! Had the burger, which was tender & tasty, I don't usually eat meat but it was the special for a charity event for CNMI w 100% of proceeds going to help them. The owner is fab & so kind!!! Definitely a great hidden gem in downtown. The others in my party had either the burger or prime rib & all enjoyed their selections.

Chef Celeste is a gem!!! The location is close to my office and we all are went to support the CNMI fundraiser. It was the best idea ever. This restaurant is right off King St but unassuming. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed by Chef and she gracefully her background and the menu. Her team put our meals together quickly for our table of 8. The presentation and flavors were all perfect. I recommend this place to all in the area and visitors.

We had a couple of hours to spend while waiting for our Iolani Palace tour time. It was midday and we were hungry! There were not a lot of choices around that area, but we popped into the Prime Roast Cafe. How lucky were we to find this spot?! A quaint, hole-in-the-wall ... in the best possible way.... run by a husband and wife team. Only around 20-25 seats, so we were happy to have quiet spot to relax and eat. My husband had the Prime Rib Panini (I forgot to take a picture) and I chose prime rib by the ounce with a side a rice. Wow!!! The meat was succulent and tender and the rice was so flavorful. Not sure how they made it, I should have asked. I love cooking and especially love eating great food - but what makes it all the more special is stumbling upon a place and having it be a highlight of my trip.

A lovely family run establishment that makes amazing food fresh. A revolving menu with seasoned favorites. Amazing baked goods. Great owners. Try the apple tartin and peanut butter smores cookie! A must stop every time I am in Honolulu!

We stumbled upon this spot just walking around downtown and decided to order takeout after looking at the menu. Insidr is small and cozy, and great feel to it. We ordered the salmon and the rime rib French dip. Both were amazing, cooked perfect, and well seasoned. The French dip was probably the best I've had in a long time and all the food was so filling and the service was awesome. This is a great find and we will definitely be going back!

On behalf of my family, I want to highlight this restaurant. We’re tourists visiting from California, and we were absolutely blown away by the food. Every dish was top quality, with flavors that were truly unique. We were not only impressed by the cuisine, but also by the warmth of the owners—an exceptional couple. They took the time to show our young kids around the kitchen, shared stories about their culinary roots, and even revealed a few of their secrets. Such wonderful people! If you get the chance, don’t think twice—go. We tried the French onion soup and the prime rib cut (yes, it’s truly prime quality!). And whatever you do, please save room for the apple tart tatin—it’s incredible!

Cute little place tucked into the corner. Service was very prompt, and attentive. Meals were all delicious, I had the prime rib french dip, full on slices of real prime cooked perfectly. Combo came with a nice little salad and the desert was the matcha with strawberry, very tasty. Would 100% come back.

The chef and patissier are classically trained, and it shows in the quality. We ordered the prime rib panini set; the beef was perfect, and the salad was fresh and delicious. The set includes a drink + mini dessert (we chose crème brûlée, and they gave us an extra!). They even split the meal for easy sharing and offered candied orange peels. Regarding price: I can see how it can be considered expensive but it is absolutely worth the price. Service was excellent; we enjoyed a lovely conversation with the staff. The head chef greeted us and wished us well as we left. A wonderful lunch experience!
