Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen (645 Kapahulu Avenue)
About
A Cajun Staple in the Heart of Kapahulu
When the craving for shatteringly crisp, buttermilk-battered chicken hits while exploring Honolulu, the Kapahulu Avenue location offers that unmistakable Louisiana-style spice profile. This neighborhood spot is a reliable go-to for locals needing a quick, savory fix after a day at nearby Waikiki Beach or a hike up Diamond Head.
Signature Spice and Southern Sides
The menu focuses on the classic recipe developed by Al Copeland, featuring that signature bold seasoning that permeates deep into the meat. The spicy chicken tenders are particularly popular, often paired with a side of buttery, flaky biscuits that arrive hot enough to melt honey packets instantly. You will find the sides—like the red beans and rice—offer a reliable, salty comfort that holds its own against the intense crunch of the breading.
Navigating the Kapahulu Corridor
Expect a bustling, high-energy environment common to fast-casual dining in this busy Honolulu thoroughfare. The kitchen maintains a steady pace, though the drive-thru line can occasionally spill out toward the main road during peak lunch and dinner rushes, a minor quirk of its high-traffic placement. The interior remains functional and no-frills, built for quick stops rather than lingering meals. Whether you are grabbing a family bucket to take to the park or a solo meal after browsing the local boutiques on Kapahulu, the smell of Cajun spices is a familiar, comforting landmark in this corner of the island.

placed an online order, picked up at drive through. they literally forgot around 2/3's of my order. pointed this out at pick up, got some items while holding up the line looking at everything. went home, noticed the family meal of chicken was way less than advertised. someone at popeyes was sleeping or ate my meal. called them for help, they declined and said go online since i ordered online. the online team provided useless "points". will never come back and hope this review is seen by everyone considering Kapahulu Popeye's

Do not Uber eat!!!! Staying at a hotel and uber eat/door dish my food. Order 4 meals and only got the sides. Try to call and never answer the phone and never called back when I left a message. Didn't uber there and back because I knew they will not reimburse me for the Uber. So I just lost out on $45.

Yesterday I went to pick up my food. Something told me to check my food before leaving. Upon checking, I noticed my Cajun fries were missing. I told the girl and she said it only comes with one side. I showed her my receipt that it comes with 2 sides and a biscuit. She went quiet and began speaking in Tagalog to her colleague. She never apologized. Please, please check your order before leaving if it’s a pick up or walk in.

This is such a great group of workers and always make my visit here enjoyable! Love the staff and their hard work every time I visit. Please, give them a raise! They deserve it, specially the night crew! Always come because of them!

Leaving a raving a review for the young man who answered the phone at 1:20pm today and provided my DoorDash order with my blackened ranch and honey for my biscuits. It’s the first time I’ve ever actually gotten my honey at this location and I eat here so much! I was so happy, and happy he remembered my ranch. Great guy

The radiating positive energy given from a worker that put my order together & it is a delite to see such postive energy, considering it is a cruel world we live in. Plus working in the fast food industry or with food in general is tough. But with some postive energy & shine, it overrides all the negatives around. It was a female worker who was assisting Jimmy in the front, in which made this visit worth it again! She made the wait time for my family's order go by fast.

RAW CHICKEN ALERT!! This is the first negative review that I have ever left…it is only because of a serious health and safety issue that I do so now. Our family had lunch there on Nov. 7, 2025. As we were eating, we noticed an unusual amount of juice dripping from my son’s chicken burger. Upon inspection we found that the chicken was completely raw in the center! Raw, as in completely uncooked and cold. We only saw this after he had eaten half of the chicken. When we brought this to management‘s attention their response was shockingly indifferent. The manager finished up several tasks in the kitchen as we waited at the counter for this to be dealt with. We left our contact information for further follow up and were assured we would be contacted shortly - no one from Popeye’s has yet reached out. The next several days were very stressful for my son and our family as we waited to see if food poisoning would develop. This put quite a damper on our family’s first day on our first trip to Hawaii. Thankfully he is doing fine. This is not an issue of poor service or subpar food - I would not spend the time to complain about that. Serving raw chicken is disgusting and protocols needs to be in place so that it is impossible for that to happen.

Waited over 30 minutes to get my order at the Kapahulu location. The chicken 🐔 wings (4pc) were sooooo small and dry. $43.99/16pc. When I got home I saw they hadn't included my Cajun fries. I wouldn't recommend going to this location, their not customer oriented and food not up to par. I'll be going back to their Dillingham location for better service and product.
