Poke & Box
About
A Customized Slice of Island Flavor
Located in the bustling heart of Ala Moana, Poke & Box offers a refreshingly direct approach to Hawaii's most iconic dish. Unlike traditional counters where the options are pre-set, this spot puts the creative control entirely in your hands. You walk down the line, choosing your base—warm rice or crisp greens—before piling on thick, marinated chunks of ahi tuna or salmon that arrive fresh from the local market.
The Sensory Experience of Freshness
Step inside and you are immediately met with the sharp, clean scent of ginger and shoyu. The kitchen operates with a rhythmic clatter of metal scoops and containers being swapped out, creating a fast-paced environment that caters perfectly to the midday rush of downtown office workers and hungry beachgoers alike. The tuna cubes here have a distinct, buttery texture that signals they haven't been sitting on ice all day.
The Local Edge
One detail regulars often notice is the efficiency; the line moves remarkably fast, which is a blessing in this busy corner of Honolulu. The customization process extends to a long list of toppings and house-made sauces that range from classic sesame oil blends to spicy aiolis that provide a genuine kick. It is an ideal stop if you want a high-protein, nourishing meal without the fluff or the wait times associated with sit-down establishments. Just keep in mind that space is at a premium, so snagging a stool during the peak lunch hour can feel like a game of musical chairs.

The poke flavor was good, but the staff's behavior made me uncomfortable. I had eaten at another restaurant to taste various things, so I ordered one of the largest sizes, but I didn't feel good because of the expression of disappointment and the gesture of asking if I was going to order just one menu

Best place so far on island that I’ve had poke. The food was really fresh, the variety of toppings and sauce was great. My favorite is the medium option I get ahi and ahi with salmon with spicy shoyu. This is a must try if you haven’t had it before.

The atmosphere in that food court is a bit crap, but luckily the poke place has indoor seating! The poke itself was a very generous portion (I got a large, with 3 fish scoops of fish) and I barely managed to finish it. Everything was very tasty and fresh, and the staff were very friendly
