A Taste of the Islands on Four Wheels

When you find yourself navigating the busy streets of Honolulu, the unmistakable scent of kiawe-smoked meats wafting through the air is a reliable indicator that Pit Stop Food Truck is parked nearby. This isn't your typical roadside quick bite; it is a dedicated operation serving up massive portions of local comfort food that captures the essence of O'ahu’s culinary scene.

What to Expect

The vibe here is purely unpretentious, centered on the shared experience of balancing a steaming plate lunch on your lap while seated on a nearby curb or standing-room-only ledge. You will hear the rhythmic clatter of spatulas hitting the flat-top grill and the constant hum of the generator providing the heartbeat of the truck. If you catch them during the lunch rush, be prepared for a line that snakes down the sidewalk, and maybe a little creative parallel parking if you’re driving a larger vehicle.

The Signature Experience

The menu highlights authentic Hawaiian plate lunch traditions. The kalua pork is the undisputed star, slow-cooked until the meat pulls apart with a gentle nudge of a fork. It arrives with the requisite scoop of macaroni salad—creamy, chilled, and heavy on the black pepper—and a generous helping of sticky white rice. The balance of salty, savory, and sweet flavors mirrors the diversity found across the island, making it a favorite for hungry construction crews and office workers looking for a hearty midday fuel-up. For those visiting Honolulu, this truck offers a raw, unfiltered look at how locals really eat when they aren't sitting down in a white-tablecloth establishment.

Lover of Pitbulls and Tacos here! 🙋🏼‍♀️ I was watching videos of a dog photographer named Justin on Instagram who met a gorgeous Pitbull named Cookie in Honolulu. Her owner mentioned he worked at a food truck that had a connection to local Pitbulls. As luck would have it, my husband and I were about to vacation to Hawaii and I knew we had to eat there! So one night in Honolulu we went out for dinner and when I spotted the pitbull silhouette on the truck I knew we found it. Nestled down an alley, the location was packed with people, so I knew it was gong to be good. Good is an understatement ….Tacos, chips, and drinks were beyond DELICIOUS! The rest of the trip we couldn’t stop talking about how those tacos were one of the best dinners we had on the island! True local flavors made with love! If you are in the area, you MUST seek out this food truck! Mahalo for a meal to remember and mahalo for advocating for misunderstood Pitbulls! 🌮 🫶🏼🐾

👥 2 pax on weekday after 3:30pm, called in order 🍽️ Kalua pork slider, kalua pork tacos, blackened mahi taco 💵 approx. $15 per person Fantastic flavours for a great price point, definitely recommend the kalua pork menu items. Mahi mahi fell slightly short of expectations in texture and flavour, but was good nonetheless. Will definitely be back to try some more of their menu items. Outdoor seating may feel a bit hot and humid given the compactness. We went past 3:30pm and had our pick of seats, however queues can form around lunch time rush. Would definitely call in or put in an order online ahead of time if you’re hoping to dine during peak hours.

Just off the main street hidden in an alleyway, this place is a must stop honestly. I had an incredible Pesto Tofu slider, my buddies had tacos and a burger. The service was awesome, staff is incredibly kind and welcoming. Ask for the homemade habanero sauce, they offered it to us and suggested dipping fries in it. Everything was so so good. Also had the pineapple lemonade, it’s fresh and ice cold.

The BBQ Kalua pork slider was sooo good. A generous portion of perfectly tender and moist pork on a toasted bun, with house made slaw that I also got as a side. It was seriously delicious. The fresh squeezed lemonade was a good mix of sweet and tangy and so refreshing. I went on a rainy Sunday; there was no line and the umbrellas at the tables kept me dry to enjoy my food. Good vibes music playing in the background. I highly recommend!

Super good pulled pork. Great mix of crispy and tender. We loved the pulled pork fries, slider, and tacos and would definitely be back! The horchata was a little disappointing but not a deal breaker. The seating can be a little tight and also smoky in the alley but you can easily move closer to the street for some fresher air.

Pretty good! I was hoping for a really crispy cheese skirt, without that it was a lot of melted cheese and a bit too heavy for my taste. Taco was flavourful, preferred it to the slider. Cool vibe and fun place to eat. Food is very filling, wish we had more time to try their other menu options as there’s lots of yummy ones. Worth a try 😋

Amazing food and drinks! We tried a few things mostly from the Kalua pork choices but it was all amazing. I think the tacos that we got tostada style were our favorite. We got the wai lohia- flavored sodas and we loved them!!!! We got about 5 different combos and they were all spectacular. Highly recommend!!!!

Food was really good for being such a busy food truck as you sometimes see quality fall off because they are trying to push out food, but that was not the case for pitstop. We did wait a good 30 minutes for a food on top of the 10 to 20 minutes waiting in line so definitely be prepared to wait but personally, I think it’s a place you should stop at when you’re in the area. The prices were definitely not hateful, especially for such a touristy area which you would expect to pay a good amount for food anyways. The fries were really good as well as everything has solid flavor. I will say the Horchata felt a bit watered down, but I might be biased, considering I’m going off of traditional Horchata flavor of the Latin countries. Regardless everything else was good quality and fresh would definitely stop by again. The pictures aren’t the best of quality since it was nighttime and we were also Tryna enjoy the food since we waited so long for it and it smelled really good. I did enjoy the pork slider and fries as well as their in house hot sauce, which were in these nice Lalo bottles. The guy taking our orders which I think is the owner was very nice and offered great suggestions as well as tips on how he likes to eat everything and was really down to earth, even through the busy environment.

If you’re in Waikiki and love finding those hidden-gem food trucks, Pit Stop Hawaii is a must-try. This is one of those spots you’d totally miss if you weren’t looking — but once you find it, you get it. We tried the pork taco, Kalua pork fries, and the cheeseburger slider and everything was so good. The pork was juicy and full of flavor, the fries were loaded and messy in the best way, and the slider was cheesy, comforting, and hit the spot. On top of that, the service was 5/5 — friendly, welcoming, and made the whole experience even better. It feels like a true local food truck: no frills, just really good food and good vibes. Perfect after a beach day or when you’re craving something satisfying. 5/5 — would absolutely come back again. When you’re in Hawaii, the best food is always at the hidden spots 🌺🍔🌮

Another day trip to Oahu meant trying to find a new place to eat. I remember seeing an Instagram reel about this food truck and decided to go for it. It is tucked away in an alley and you can easily miss it especially with the construction going on at the moment on the surrounding buildings. Went simple with just their burger, a horchata and a side of slaw. That messy looking burger is honestly the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Flavors were so balanced and the side of house made slaw had the right about of sour acidity to keep the juicy fatty burger in check. I thought I was going to hate the sweet Hawaiian bun used for it but it worked so well with the patty and cheese and everything else inside. I wanted to order another burger but I had to restrain myself because I had other places to try. Even after flying home the next day I couldn’t help but crave that burger.
