A Modern Twist on Kaimuki Comfort

Piko Kitchen + Bar brings a refreshing energy to the historic Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu. Moving away from traditional plate lunch stereotypes, this spot focuses on refined local favorites that feel both familiar and elevated. The space is bright and open, characterized by a clean, industrial aesthetic that leans into the neighborhood's evolving personality.

What to Expect on the Menu

Chef-driven plates here rely on high-quality ingredients sourced throughout the island. You will find elevated comfort food, such as their signature crispy pork belly or creative takes on fresh local catches. The flavors are intentional—bold, bright, and often featuring a balanced acidity that pairs perfectly with their curated craft cocktail list.

The Sensory Experience

Stepping inside, the first thing you notice is the rhythmic clatter of the open kitchen, which keeps the energy levels high during dinner service. The air often carries the aroma of charred aromatics and fresh herbs. While the food is consistently excellent, it is worth noting that the acoustic design allows the room to get quite energetic and loud as the night progresses; it is a lively spot for a social dinner rather than a quiet, intimate conversation.

Local Insights

Located along the bustling Waialae Avenue corridor, the restaurant is a prime example of the creative culinary wave moving through central Honolulu. Parking in this part of the city is famously tight, so leave a few extra minutes to scout for a spot on the nearby side streets. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite at the bar or settling in for a full meal, Piko Kitchen + Bar stands out as a genuine reflection of contemporary Hawaii dining, perfect for locals and curious travelers alike.

We stopped by for its happy hour where one can find $5 drafts and $5 burgers. Naturally I tried both and added an order of garlic fries (unfortunately, it didn’t have ranch dressing). The blond ale was excellent and the food was pretty good. The mango soft serve was good and big. The service was great and there were both indoor and outdoor seating areas. We walked to this place, but there was a sign that said they have validation that gives a discount for 2-hour parking.

Came here for the happy hour, $5 baos and burgers are hard to beat. We really enjoyed both options, we also got their garlic fries on the side and those were absolutely fantastic as well. It served perfectly as a light lunch.

I pass out my five stars very sparingly, and only give them when they are truly deserved. We thought we would try this place because the prices looked reasonable and, as we walked by, the plates looked really good. Ohh my goodness, we were completely blown away! We ordered the tomato and cucumber salad, pork bites and sirloin steak (and a side of steamed rice). The blend of flavors and preparation had intentionality and an incredible blending of flavors and textures. The cooks clearly know what they are doing and are passionate about their craft. Haelee, our server was awesome. Kalen the manager was attentive and helped make the experience perfect. If you are in Waikiki, make sure you stop by Pico Kitchen + Bar. PS. If you want an amazing treat for dessert, try the mango soft serve. It's not just ice cream, but fresh made daily, and an incredible sensory experience with mango cubes and honeycomb crunch topping. YUM!!
