A Quick Escape to Thailand in Kaimuki
Tucked away in the vibrant Kaimuki district, Phuket Thai Express serves as a no-frills destination for those craving bold, uncompromising spice levels and authentic preparation. This isn't your typical sit-down white tablecloth establishment; it’s a high-energy spot where the sound of the wok-toss rings out consistently over the hum of the neighborhood traffic.
The Signature Heat
Known for their heavy-hitting Pad Thai and rich, coconut-heavy curries, the kitchen focuses on delivering traditional flavor profiles rather than catering to muted palates. The Green Curry stands out for its balance of fresh Thai basil and sharp bird's eye chili, while the Tom Yum soup carries that distinct, citrusy fragrance of lemongrass and galangal that cuts through the heat. Locals often stop by after a long day in Honolulu for a quick, reliable meal that packs enough ginger and garlic to wake up the senses.
What to Expect
The space is functional and compact, prioritizing speed and takeout convenience over lengthy lounge sessions. Be prepared for limited parking in the immediate vicinity—a common trade-off for dining in the heart of Honolulu’s busiest food corridors. The decor is minimal, letting the sharp, aromatic steam rising from the kitchen tell the real story. It is the perfect stop for office workers grabbing lunch or anyone wandering through the Kaimuki area who values substance over spectacle.

Super quaint spot for good Thai food. There is a small dining room, but most customers seem to take the food to-go. I personally ordered the Chicken Thai Fried Rice Thai Hot. Know that Thai Hot is definitely spicy and perfect for clearing your sinuses, haha 🔥. The food was incredibly flavorful, the chicken was moist and well cooked, and everything else about my dish was outstanding. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Thai food!

Been here twice. Good portion on the Pad Thai. I ordered my pad thai mild so I could add variety of spices. Ordered the same item 2 times but they are cooked a little bit different. Firs time was lunch so it was dryer than the dinner time. I prefer it a little dried like lunch time. I guess they had different cook. I wish they added peanuts and lime juice for it. Pad thai is not complete without those two elements.
