Pho Kapahulu
About
A Steaming Bowl in the Heart of Kapahulu
Walking into Pho Kapahulu, you are immediately greeted by the heavy, comforting scent of star anise and charred ginger simmering in massive stockpots. This is a no-frills neighborhood staple that prioritizes substance over flash. Tucked away on the vibrant strip of Kapahulu Avenue, it serves as the perfect refueling stop after a long day at Waikiki Beach or a hike up Diamond Head.
The Broth That Defines a Neighborhood
The culinary philosophy here is simple: respect the broth. The signature beef pho arrives with a clarity that belies its depth, accompanied by a generous side of fresh basil, bean sprouts, and lime wedges. While the menu offers a variety of rice noodle dishes and spring rolls, the loyal local crowd consistently leans toward the classic Rare Beef Pho. The meat is sliced thin, cooking just enough in the steaming liquid to remain tender.
What to Expect at the Table
The atmosphere is bustling and utilitarian. You will hear the rhythmic clinking of ceramic spoons against bowls and the hum of chatter from neighborhood regulars. It is the kind of place where you might have to navigate a slightly tight parking lot, but the reward is a quick, piping-hot meal that hits the spot without pretension. If you are seeking a place to sit for hours with a cocktail, look elsewhere. If you want a steaming, aromatic bowl of soup that reminds you why Honolulu's food scene is so diverse, this is your destination.

Super Small Family-run restaurant, in a bustling area of Waikiki, but totally worth the try and visit. My food orders to-go of different times were just so tasty. Now I know why, the Chefs and Owners do so with Love!

This place is a classic pho shop. Simple. Small. With fans blowing, street sounds from Kapahulu Avenue, functional decor, and the best combo when it comes to customer service and cooking: the friendliest woman and a quiet but skilled cook in the kitchen. We both had pho. Mine was rare steak and I asked her to add beef ball and she did. Amazing! Here, the broth is flavorful but not overpowering. The spring rolls were good as well. As for the service: Lo and was a superb hostess. Funny. Engaging. Happy. Parking is tough. So, we slightly cheated. We parked at Safeway, bought groceries, ate pho, and then went back to grab more groceries. Please visit. You won't be disappointed!

Extremely delicious. Shrimp summer rolls were fantastic as well as the spicy beef noodle soup and the bbq chicken spring roll vermicelli that we got. We shared everything. The service was very kind and hospitable. We were so happy to be there after a long day out and they offered us a little extra bonus treat for dessert. The local spots are definitely the place to be outside of Waikiki. Come support them! Would totally come back.
