Sizzle Your Own Steak in Moanalua
At Pepper Lunch in the Moanalua neighborhood, the kitchen table serves as your own personal grill. This Japanese-style fast-casual spot centers entirely around the signature iron plate, which arrives at your table heated to a searing 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The concept is simple but engaging: you take control of the cooking process, tossing thin-sliced beef and fresh corn with their proprietary garlic butter and house-made sauces right before your eyes.
The Signature DIY Ritual
The Beef Pepper Rice remains the go-to order for regulars in this part of Honolulu. Watching the raw meat brown instantly against the iron cast is part of the draw; the scent of toasted black pepper and melting butter fills the air the moment the plate touches the counter. It is an interactive meal that works well for quick lunches or casual weeknight dinners when you want something hot, fast, and savory.
What to Expect
Because the searing iron plates keep everything steaming hot, the space often feels warm, even with the air conditioning running. Expect a lively, energetic environment where the sound of metal utensils scraping against iron plates creates a rhythmic hum throughout the dining area. While parking in the Moanalua shopping complex can get tight during peak hours, the trade-off is a high-protein, customizable meal that avoids the stuffiness of traditional teppanyaki houses. Whether you are looking for a quick bite near the airport or a reliable spot for a comfort food fix, the focus here is strictly on the sear and the spice.

Once in awhile a nice sizzling platter of rice n meat is nice, but at a $20+ price point I think ill stick to my plate lunches. My beef kim chee was ok, but I used a lot of the garlic n sweet sauce. Didn't know it came with cheese. So maybe that threw it off. Place is nice n cleann service is great. Lots of parking.

For fast food, this place has tasty rice and pasta dishes. I tried its beef/shrimp combo, which was ready quickly but the beef was uncooked. So you have to do your own teppanyaki, which was kind of fun. The overall taste and the quality of the ingredients were decent and the prices were reasonable. Although it’s a fast food place, but be aware that a tip was expected. Service was akin to any other fast food places, which was basically indifferent and not efficient, but not terrible.

A popular place to eat. Japanese style portions, fast and friendly service. Don't go if you're hungry. Might be a good restaurant in Japan, but with Hawaii eat till you're tired appetite it doesn't reflect the culture. I ordered a steak and chicken combo. 4 large pieces of each with rice, green beans, corn and mushrooms. $32 plus $2 for each add on. I came out hungry and it's like Raising Cane's a once in a lifetime experience. Small dinning room hence the line. Food comes out fast and sizzling.
