A Fiery Staple of the Kaheka Corridor

Stepping into Pearl's Korean BBQ, you are immediately greeted by the heavy, savory aroma of charred proteins and garlic-heavy marinades. This local favorite has long been a go-to spot for those craving no-frills, heavy-hitting comfort food in the heart of Honolulu. The setup is straightforward—a counter-service workflow that keeps the line moving fast, even when the lunch rush turns the storefront into a chaotic, bustling scene.

Why the Locals Keep Returning

The menu remains anchored by their legendary BBQ meat plates. The kalbi short ribs are the undisputed champions here, charred to order on a high-heat grill until they achieve that perfect balance of caramelized edges and tender, juicy meat. Most plates come served with a generous scoop of macaroni salad and white rice, the quintessential Hawaiian plate lunch architecture. If you lean toward spice, the spicy pork is a reliable choice that packs enough heat to require a cold drink.

The Experience

This isn't a place for white-tablecloth service; it is a place for hungry people looking for maximum flavor per dollar. Expect a utilitarian environment where the sound of the sizzling grill often competes with the ambient chatter of office workers and students from nearby areas. One minor quirk to keep in mind: the parking situation in this particular section of the neighborhood can get tight, especially during peak weekend hours, so be prepared to scan the surrounding blocks for a stall. Despite the cramped quarters, the efficiency of the kitchen ensures you’re never waiting long for your plastic container filled with some of the best-marinated meats in Oahu.

Bi Bim Bap. Mandoo. $30. Disappointing. Waitress at register had sassy attitude. Waiter was patient. Mandoo's sauce was bland. No vinegar. Side vegetable: Spice was flat. Greens was salty. Beef was dry and chewy. Sprouts were good, salad was too wet in sauce resulting mushy rice.. I'm not sure if that's how they serve their food or I just somehow got a bad plate. But I feel like it wasn't worth $33 for both of them with it tasting like that. Disposed both of them unfinished. Would I return? No. Bit disappointing.

I made the mistake of ordering delivery solely based on the restaurant’s high Uber Eats rating, and I seriously regret it. The food was shoved into the container in the most careless, disgusting way — when I opened it, it looked so unappetizing that it killed my appetite instantly. It was honestly revolting. The portions were ridiculously over the top, easily enough for four people. Normally I almost never waste food, but this time I had no choice but to throw most of it in the trash. Truly unacceptable. I feel completely deceived by the 4.7-star rating (5000+ reviews) on Uber Eats. I have no idea how such a misleading score could possibly exist.

The food is always delicious! And the staff so generous and kind! Sheryl even said, "Welcome to Pearl's!" the first time I dined here! The tables and floor are always clean! I always have a pleasant experience whenever I eat here and that is why I come here every Friday afternoon! Mahalo piha to Clarence, Cherie, Sheryl, Mike and Michael! Kamsahamnida!

I order from here at least once a month. Pearl's special is exactly that, Special. The veggies are always seasoned to perfection. Not to mention, the portions are decent. The service is great, always friendly and quick.

Very convenient location. I tried both chicken katsu and BBQ pork and both were good. And they’re so generous with the portion that one order could feed me 2 meals. My favorite side is potato salad. The wait time is reasonable too. They have a small seating area but has been closed during the pandemic.

This is a convenient location. I had an appointment nearby and decided to have my lunch here and it turned out good. I have ordered a mini bbq beef plate and they did provide me with enough to fill me up for the day and not too much as I have been eating too much lately. The food was good and the service with also good so this is a good convenient spot when I am near by.

Love the food. Quality and good portions. Just wish I didn't have to deal with the c@=tiest staff I've experienced in memory. Day or night, just after opening, before they close, mid afternoon when it's slow. Doesn't matter. But again, the foods awesome. The people just suck.

Got combo today, #11 bbq beef and (teriyaki) chicken. They are very generous! 4 sides come with the main meat. This could be two meals. The taste is just right for saltiness and sweetness. There is another branch in Kahara mall, they are also really generous. This is one of my favorite place to pick up lunch!

It was getting late and this was one of the few places that was open. They give generous portions and serve delicious food. We ordered the Bi Bim Bap and the BBQ Beef which came with four large sides. The sides were very tasty, of which our favorites included the pickled radish and the macaroni salad. So happy to have come across this place, as we were doing some last minute grocery shopping nearby.

The newest location of a local favorite takes up the space at Don Quixote where yummy used to be. Everything you want from a good Korean bbq restaurant including adequate clean seating and decent parking options..
