About
A Haven for Plant-Based Comfort in Moiliili
Walking into Peace Cafe feels like stepping out of the humid Honolulu bustle and into a quiet, plant-filled sanctuary. Located in the heart of the Moiliili district, this spot has built a loyal following among locals who crave honest, veggie-forward meals without the pretension. The air inside is often thick with the earthy, comforting scent of ginger and freshly steamed brown rice, grounding you the moment you cross the threshold.
Signature Flavors and Local Ingredients
The kitchen leans heavily into Japanese-inspired comfort food. You will find their signature Katsu Curry is a masterclass in texture, trading traditional meat for a crispy, panko-crusted tofu that holds its crunch against a velvety, house-made curry sauce. The menu avoids complex additives, opting instead for clean, recognizable ingredients that highlight the natural profile of local produce. Don't overlook the fresh, vibrant salads or their array of house-pressed juices, which offer a sharp, cold contrast to the steaming bowls served at the counter.
The Moiliili Atmosphere
The space is functional and minimalist, designed for quick lunches or casual solo dinners. If you visit during the lunch rush, be prepared for a bit of a squeeze; the popularity of this neighborhood staple often means the small dining area reaches capacity quickly. You might find yourself sharing a table or waiting a moment for a seat, but the efficiency of the staff keeps things moving smoothly. It is the kind of place where you come to refuel with purpose—whether you are a long-time vegan or simply looking for a lighter, balanced meal before heading toward the University or Waikiki. The acoustic hum of the open kitchen and the soft chatter of regulars create an inviting, unhurried backdrop for a midweek recharge.

This is a cute little vegan cafe. The food was excellent and included a lot of gluten-free options. I really enjoyed my bowl, dessert, and tea. The only drawback here was that seating was very limited around lunch time. It's counter service but then a little tricky to find a place to sit once you have your food. Fortunately the other customers are friendly and didn't mind me joining another party's table. I'd say this cafe is 10/10 for takeout and maybe 6/10 for lunch rush dine in. No parking lot but the metered street parking wasnt too bad.

I saw this place on the map and had to try it out. I had the mapu katsu with tempeh. It was very good! The tempeh was crispy and the mapu was flavorful. Not bad for $20 as it fed me twice. Would come back.

Great little vegan cafe. Wide range of options for food, drinks, and desserts, all 100% vegan. The Katsu Curry was delicious. Also loved the passionfruit lemonade. Staff are very friendly and even have us some recommendations on local markets and vegan spots.
