A Slice of Americana on the Island

Perched along the stretch of road leading toward the more rugged parts of Honolulu, Patrick's Roadhouse 50 brings a distinct mainland-diner sensibility to the tropical landscape. This isn't your typical resort-side eatery; it functions as a throwback to the classic highway stop where the smell of sizzling griddle cakes and fresh-brewed coffee fills the air the moment you step through the door.

The Experience

The interior is unapologetically eclectic, packed with a lifetime of curiosities that give the space a lived-in, personality-driven feel. It is a favorite for locals looking to escape the polished tourist hubs for something with a bit more grit and character. Whether you are grabbing a quick breakfast or settling into a booth for a hearty plate of classic American comfort food, the atmosphere is loud, energetic, and unapologetically casual.

Observations

Be prepared for a bustling, high-traffic environment—it gets busy during peak weekend hours, and the acoustics can get a bit boisterous as the morning rush hits. Parking can be a bit of a dance due to the popularity of the spot, so expect to navigate the tight space with a bit of patience. The staff moves with a practiced efficiency that reflects the history of the location, ensuring that your cup is never empty while you take in the vibrant, cluttered charm that defines this Honolulu landmark.

This whole experience was an odd one. The server was extremely nice but everything else was really not great. All of the food we ordered was generally undercooked - from the potatoes to the French toast. My dad’s scrambled eggs were basically raw. They did remake them and they were better after that. I asked for avocado toast with radish and they gave me toast with sweet relish. I asked them to remake it please and they just scraped it off and brought it back to me. I had to send it back to be fully remade because it was just weird with the lingering relish taste. They didn’t bring me the newly remade toast until after everyone else in my group was done eating. I have no idea how avocado toast takes 20 minutes to make. There were only a couple tables in here and the food took exceptionally long to come out in general. I was honestly shocked. I feel like the team in the kitchen has lost all of their passion for cooking. I’m not sure if it’s just an off day but I wouldn’t go back.

I ordered a guava mimosa and loco moco. The mimosa was so refreshing and the loco moco with mole was delicious! I love the old timey music and decor. Service was excellent! I would definitely come back.

Had a remarkable Caesar salad. I Always order Caeser, but this beat Nicos, Costco, blue note, Anna Marie's, easily. Gorgeous oceanside atmosphere 😍. Service was stellar. Highly recommend 👌

We ordered breakfast: coffee, the BLT, roadhouse potatoes, and the royal Hawaiian breakfast. It was an overwhelming amount of food. Outstanding food everything was delicious. This is the best hidden Jem in Oahu! Prices are good too! Worth coming to and beautiful views. Staffwas the kindest we have had here in hawaii!

Terrible experience. The food: The featured picture is what cost $16, toast, Avocado and a couple slices of onion. Ridiculous. The other meal we had, utilized cheap ingredients again at a ridiculous price. The Bacon was thin and cheap. Scrambled eggs were under cooked. The service: Take note that my partner and I were their only guests who ordered or received food in the 2 hours of time that was taken from us while we were at this restaurant. Upon arriving, the server was happy and joyful easy going. We ordered water with no ice and some orange juice. The water came with ice. We ordered our food, I was told I could substitute eggs for potatoes which I did and then was asked if I wanted them seasoned truffled or spicy. I stated that I wanted them seasoned. This, I later found out was an upcharge of $4. Our food took approximately 1 hour to come out. Upon receiving our food my partners avocado toast had the red pepper flakes on the side as requested however completely missing from the toast was the Tajin. My potatoes came out interesting, the weirdest seasoned potatoes I had seen, seasoned with salsa I guess, I thought. Bored and disappointed with our food we tried to continue on. The server came and asked if we wanted a refill of our juice. We were surprised that from the sounds of it the juice would have a free refill, we had to ask before being notified that it would be an upcharge of $5 per cup. After waiting for the server to come around again, Approx waiting for 20 mins, We then asked for the bill. Upon receiving the bill, I immediately put my card on top as we had spent enough time here waiting around. The server was gone and cleaning tables for another 20 mins before returning. This gave me enough time to realize, A) my potatoes were the incorrect preparation(spicy rather than seasoned) B) they upcharged me without notifying me. Upon getting the bill back I said "thank you" and the waiter replied shortly "yeah" before quickly leaving. The quickest thing this restaurant did was after leaving they immediately cleared our table and checked the tip. Location: Beautiful location, located on the Harbor.

Quirky little restaurant with some great table views of the harbor. Decent menu with options for a lot of people. Service was extremely slow for lunch, and there were only two tables including ours. Waiter had no clue of the menu or really about being a waiter. Food was pretty good when it came out and a couple of really good items. Worth a visit and hopefully you get better service.

A new place on the Harbor side of Aloha Tower/ HPU. They just opened, but they also own a restaurant by the same name in California, which apparently was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. The atmosphere is nice, open air to the harbor. I got the BLT on wheat and everything was great about it. The fries were a little on the soggy side, I think the fryer might not have been heated up all the way yet, but I'm willing to let that go with new open glitches. The Avocado toast with egg was very good, the eggs perfectly cooked with a runny yolk (I'm sure you could ask them to hard cook if you're worried about undercooked eggs). 1 hour parking is free with validation. The bar area isn't open yet, but will be in a few weeks which looks like a great Pau Hana spot.

Don’t let the off-the-path location or VERY eclectic ambience scare you away; Patrick’s does what every restaurant needs to do- deliver delicious food in large quantities with a smile. We got two omelettes with potatoes and toast and can happily confirm it was almost as good as home cooked! My wife’s fresh squeezed OJ and my fresh coffee completed the meal perfectly. If we’re ever in the neighborhood again, we’d love to drop in for another meal!

Good to see the restaurant site being used again because it is a pleasant place to watch the air force take offs and the harbour in action. Friendly greeting from the outset which prompted me to decide this was the place for lunch. Indoor and outdoor seating with a fascinating range of decorative items on the wall. I chose the excellent chicken salad - the salad had fetta, sun dried tomatoes, a big avocado half, mushrooms rocket and sprouts. It was so big I couldn't finish it. The liquor licence is coming on the 18th but i went for the clamato because we can't get it in Australia and it is a winner. I hope it does well because it is a great spot to spend some time.
