A Slice of Honolulu Heritage
Stepping into Original Magoo’s Pizza in the heart of Honolulu feels like hitting the pause button on the modern world. This is not a place for white-tablecloth service; it is a straightforward, no-nonsense pizzeria where the ovens have been working overtime for decades to satisfy local cravings. You will likely notice the casual, order-at-the-counter setup the moment you step off the street, and yes, finding a parking spot in this bustling part of town can be a bit of a challenge, but the effort is worth the reward.
The Flavor Profile
What sets this institution apart is the crust—it maintains that classic, chewy bite that defines old-school pizza joints. Their signature pies are loaded with generous amounts of cheese and toppings that don't skimp on quality. Whether you are grabbing a quick lunch while exploring the island or picking up a box to take to the beach for a sunset dinner, the pizza here is built for utility and comfort. The aroma of bubbling mozzarella and zesty tomato sauce hitting the air is a constant, welcoming presence as you wait for your order.
Who Should Go?
This is the go-to spot for those who appreciate local, unpretentious food. It serves the crowd looking for a reliable, hearty meal after a day of surfing or hiking. Because of the limited indoor seating, it is best suited for people who want an authentic, quick-turnaround meal that delivers on taste without the frills. It is exactly what you want when you stop worrying about trendy toppings and just want a solid slice that hits the spot every single time.

About three years ago, when we dined here, we only ordered two small pizzas but were charged over $60. It was our mistake that we didn’t notice at the time of payment, but when we carefully checked the receipt the next day, we realized that we had been charged for another table’s order. We went back to the restaurant and asked the owner for a refund of the difference, but he refused to listen to us at all, became defensive, and would not issue a refund. I was shocked by the lack of honesty. He spoke as if we were lying and didn’t even try to check the order history or sales records from that day. I can’t help but wonder if I was treated this way because I am Japanese-American. This was by far the worst service I have ever experienced. As other reviews have mentioned, it seems like they regularly overcharge customers. I regret not calling the police at the time

First time here and went with their Hot Ham and Mushroom Sub. It was delicious! Would get again. The half size is also pretty big and I came with an appetite so I was glad to get a good size portion sub for the price. It was ready pretty fast and it was served hot with cheese melting. Hope I get the same cook again next time to make it this good! Atmosphere was cool and I like the bar too seating as well as open tables.

Man, I used to love this place. Twenty years ago I ate at Magoos once a week for the 4 years I lived on island, Pineapple & anchovies every time. I was Back on the island for a family vacation. I wanted to share my experience with them. I pre ordered (3 hours heads up) for my family for a 6:30 delivery (after church). I get a text at 5:45 saying my Deivery is on its way. I had to leave church early and run to hotel to meet the delivery driver who showed up at 6:02. The pizza boxes did not fit in his moped and were placed in his box vertically. The pizza had slid to one side in a pile. See attached pic of what it looked like after trying to fix. The irritating part was the drivers whatever attitude. I Called to address my frustrations and ask for a partial refund, especially from the tip to the driver. I did not hear back from the store manager after multiple days.

I love this place. Your staff is always hustling and positive. I think their pizza style is unique and homemade tasting. While it’s limited, the chicken dinner is awesome.

The food came cold. I did receive it through uber eats. However, the cheese wasn’t cooked. The flavor wasn’t really there for me. It tasted like a lunch-able. I tried getting a refund but sadly uber eats doesn’t give those. That gets me to my next point. Paying 25 dollars for a small pizza that was not cooked is not it. I feel bad leaving such a negative review. But it really wasn’t that good

It's a unique tasting pizza, old school, how pizza used to taste in Hawaii. Very friendly and neighborhood style service and menu. They actually tapped out of the hot ham and mushroom sandwich the night I went but pizza was a great plan B. Normally, I can finish a large thin crust but this large defeated my pride. Great place to go for a quick fix. Sandwiches are the bomb. You think its just a sandwich and you may not like it, but you become a believer. They're simple but comforting. I'm not a wings guy but tried them. Got the salt n pepper wings. Interestingly, they're prepared with a slight crust on them. Not bad at all. Worth a try! 7/24/22 Finally got to try the new location. Got the hot ham and mushroom and a small combo pizza. Nice cozy place with a decent sized bar and table seating. Happened to be busy with a private party but all good. Staff is very courteous, helpful, quick and friendly. If you've been to any Magoos then you already know the menu. It's a Paradise Beverage bar, so no AB products. It's quite understandable as they are a small business - part of the attraction though. Pierre, the bartender, is cool and so are the staff. Another great neighborhood option to relax and enjoy fir your quick indulging fix. 😉🤙✌️

Ngl Magoos has been around for a while. Back in college, they used to be near UH, towards my graduation they closed and became a food truck. Only recently I found out they had a physical locations in Kaimuki. I think i heard the owner's daughter runs it now...or a family member (something like that). Anyways, slightly different from before. I recall the pizza used to be more doughy and heavy on the toppings. Now it's not so heavy with a sturdy crust. I got the medium Magoo's special gourmet pizza. Overall it was okay, the pizza was not my preference. I should have gotten the famou combo or the garlic & chicken pizza. Service was friendly when I ordered take out. Server gave me water while I waited. A nice gesture. The atmosphere was pretty quiet that day and I didn't stay to eat...just ordered to go.

This place was super patient when I called. They help me figure out how to use their online delivery service and helped me get vegan pizza delivered to the beach for my birthday. When the doordash delivery person dropped it off it contained a birthday gift from the restaurant as well. They went above and beyond, and during a time when quality customer service is sparse, going above and beyond means a lot. Thank you Magoo's for making my birthday a little more magical. Everyone loved the vegan cheese and the vegan combo pizzas I ordered.
