Olili
About
A Neighborhood Gem in Kaimuki
Olili has carved out a distinct space in the Kaimuki food scene, moving away from the typical tourist-heavy menus to offer a more grounded, local-centric dining experience. Stepping inside, you are met with an unpretentious, cozy environment that feels like a well-kept secret among residents. It is the kind of spot where the background hum of conversation is punctuated by the rhythmic clatter of the open kitchen.
Savoring the Seasonal Influence
The culinary philosophy here centers on fresh, local ingredients transformed into comfort food with a refined edge. Expect a rotating menu that reflects what is currently best at the markets across Oahu. Signature dishes often lean into elevated island staples, with the kitchen staff showing a particular prowess for balancing bold spices with the natural sweetness of locally sourced seafood and produce. The aroma of searing garlic and fresh herbs often greets you at the door, a promising sign of the meal ahead.
Tips for Your Visit
While the atmosphere is relaxed, the popularity of this Kaimuki enclave means it can fill up quickly during peak dinner hours, leading to a lively, sometimes boisterous acoustic environment. If you are driving, prepare for the typical street parking challenge common to this historic district—a small price to pay for the quality served on the plate. Olili is ideal for a quiet mid-week date or a casual dinner with friends who appreciate a chef-driven approach without the white-tablecloth pretense. Come prepared to slow down, share a few plates, and enjoy a genuine slice of Honolulu’s modern culinary identity.

Our server Bethany was wonderful and polite, attentive but not hovering. My cocktail came out not fizzy and she replaced it when we told her it was meh when she asked (the bartender explained the tonic they use comes in larger bottles and can sometimes go a bit flat) All our food was fantastic (get the seasonal inspiration, lemongrass meatballs) and we loved everything. We ordered crispy skin kanpachi, lemongrass meatballs, and gyoza for the two of us and it was perfect and filling. We will absolutely come back next time we are in Waikiki They have a separate kids menu but we never saw it as we didn’t come with kids

Dinner at a restaurant in a market, though the restaurant is tucked away from the market so you don’t feel so exposed. Delicious food and friendly, attentive waitstaff. Drinks: Show You Smoke - my husband was hesitant as he doesn’t love rye but the caramel really mellowed this drink out. A bit too sweet for me but very tasty. Hibachi Rita - just the right amount of smoke and perfect flavor. Food: Kanpachi crudo - wow, it’s like fish caprese with the tomato and basil flavors. The fish was tender and delicious. Pulehu half chicken - beautiful presentation, super moist, delicious red rooster sauce and amazing garlic rice on the side. Fresh Catch - Shutome (Hawaiian swordfish) - the sauce over the fish was amazing, good size filet, and nice sides. Seasonal dessert - banana bread pudding with egg nog sauce and gingerbread crumbles. Everything was great. There was a little mix up with our dessert order but they owned up to it and made it right. This stuff happens and they reacted appropriately so no complaints. Definitely would go back and try some other dishes.

Kudos to the chef who does amazing food in this modern relaxed restaurant! Amazing duck croquettes and BeST Bone marrow dish! Really refined flavours and uniques dishes here in a unsassuming location. The crab noodles were good but the marlin fish was very tasty. Best of all were the desserts...all fun with the rainbow cake and molten mango we light an crispy!
