A Beachside Escape in the Heart of Waikiki

Perched above the bustling main thoroughfare of Waikiki, Oahu Mexican Grill—fondly known as OMG—offers a laid-back alternative to the high-end resort dining scene. Once you ascend to the second floor, the roar of the tourist crowds fades into the background, replaced by the rhythmic clinking of ice in margaritas and the occasional gust of salt air drifting in from the Pacific.

Fresh Flavors Above the Surf

This spot is a local favorite for those craving generous portions of Baja-style Mexican fare without the pretense. The menu is built for customization; you will find a steady stream of surfers and beach-goers lining up for massive burritos stuffed with carne asada or grilled fresh catch. The kitchen excels at keeping it simple, focusing on zesty salsas and high-volume protein servings that fuel a long day of sunbathing.

The Waikiki Atmosphere

The space strikes a balance between a casual taco shack and an open-air bar. It’s an ideal vantage point for people-watching along the Kalakaua corridor while sipping on a cold cerveza. Be prepared for a bit of a squeeze during peak lunch hours, as the open-air layout fills up fast. It’s loud, energetic, and unapologetically casual. If you snag a table near the railing, you get a front-row seat to the iconic Hawaiian sunset without paying the inflated prices of the beachfront hotel lounges below. It is the kind of place where you leave your sandals by the door, grab a napkin, and dive into a messy, satisfying meal that hits the spot after hours in the waves.

I visited on 6/11 after traveling for approximately an hour to get there. Upon arrival, I was greeted pleasantly, but unfortunately the positive experience ended there. I politely ordered a burrito bowl and noticed that the white rice was down to its last couple of scoops. At establishments like this, I typically request a fresh batch when an item is nearly depleted, as I prefer not to receive food that may have been sitting for an extended period. I was more than willing to wait, even if it took 10 minutes or longer. Instead of simply accommodating my request or explaining the situation professionally, the employee felt the need to argue with me about there being no difference between the remaining rice and a fresh batch. The conversation became an unnecessary back-and-forth over a reasonable customer request. I then asked to speak with a manager, only to be informed that no manager was present. That response was concerning, as there appeared to be no one available to address customer concerns or resolve the situation. What disappointed me most was not that my request couldn't be accommodated, but that it was dismissed and met with resistance rather than basic customer service. Proper customer service training and conflict-resolution skills would greatly benefit the staff. As a local resident, this was only my second visit, and unfortunately it will also be my last. Based on this experience, I will no longer be patronizing this business.

YOOOOOOOOOOOO When you need a great bite and don't want to pay 30$ + wakiki prices for basic plates this is the spot for sure! Chipotle can learn a few things. The portions size matches the flavor, BIG!!!!! Space is clean and great views. You can have great food with a great view of the beach. No I'm not a native but I appreciate when good food is just fine right and the price fits. Had a burrito and I couldn't even finish it which for me is a feat in itself. I've polished plenty of chipotle and Qdoba and this place blows them out the water. Wife had the carne asada fries and I was almost jealous they looked fantastic. Probably gonna hit this again before we head home. O.M.G. thank you for getting it right.

Love this place! The best shrimp tacos and Mahi Mahi tacos. I dont know what's in the green sauce but it's magical. The pineapple salsa is the perfect compliment to the seafood. Just yum. I also love that's in on the 2nd floor with great views without all the street exhaust and noise. A must visit!

My friend had a good breakfast experience here with her family so I had to come in. She recommended the pancakes but I went with the verde chilequles with steak. OMG brought me back to Puerto Vallerta. So good. It had a little kick and it was hot fresh from the kitchen. In the middle of the meal, they came to check on me and they were so sweet. They serve breakfast till 11. I want to come back and try their whipped coffee.

The burrito was very good, very tasty and very filling. The nachos were good as well and also very tasty. Even the place is very pretty and when you eat you have the ocean view. I would recommend this place.

Oahu Mexican Grill is hands down a great spot in Waikiki. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a chill, laid-back island vibe that makes you want to slow down and enjoy life. It’s the perfect mix of beach-casual and local charm; you can show up straight from the sand and feel right at home. The food is fresh and full of flavor. Every bite tastes like it was made with care; the ingredients are high quality, and you can really taste it. The tacos and burritos are packed, not skimpy, and the salsas have that perfect kick without overpowering the dish. It’s clear they take pride in serving food that’s not only delicious but consistently well-made. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or just chilling with friends and watching the sunset, Oahu Mexican Grill hits the spot every time. Great food, friendly service, and an easygoing atmosphere exactly what you want in a Waikiki eatery. 🌮🌴

Great service. Employees were awesome. Rice and beans were very tasty. As for the tacos…. Not the greatest. The steak was tough and not flavorful at all. I wish Waikiki had a decent Mexican Restaurant. Restaurant has great ocean views because it’s on the second level.

Easily and by far the best restaurant in Waikiki without question. We came for dinner and my Carne Asada Fries were absolutely incredible, my kiddo and wife had the chicken quesadilla and my other kiddo had the nachos...all amazingly delicious. We then had breakfast this moring and the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sando was spectacular and my wife's Guacamole Toast, also spectacular. I wish we found this place earlier as I would literally eat here every day. We haven't even touched on the atmosphere and views from the window seats...this place IS an 11 out of 10! Also, I have never had a breakfast anywhere that I couldn't finish, the portions are super as well! Sorry that most of the pics were taken after we dug in as we just couldn't hold off...

You order at the counter and you can see the staff making your food. I got a chicken burrito with black beans, cilantro lime rice, corn roasted salsa and cheese - I think that was everything. They had fun folding it! My wife got a chicken quesadilla. The quesadilla took longer to get than I thought it would. Everything tasted fantastic! The staff was very friendly and engaging. A great place for a quick meal!!!
