A Cool Escape in the Heart of Honolulu
When the tropical humidity hits its peak near the Ala Moana corridor, NIO Snow Ice & Tea offers a necessary reprieve. This isn't your standard frozen dessert shop; it specializes in the Taiwanese style of snow ice, where the flavor is shaved directly into the block, resulting in a texture that sits somewhere between traditional shaved ice and velvety gelato.
The Texture Experience
The standout here is the sheer consistency of the dessert. Unlike standard ice that relies heavily on heavy syrups for flavor, the base is creamy and dense. Whether you choose a classic milk base, matcha, or fruit-infused layers, the ice melts cleanly on the palate. The topping bar is where you can customize the crunch, though the mochi chunks are a local favorite for their chewy contrast against the light, fluffy shavings.
Local Vibe and Quirks
Stepping inside, the space is utilitarian and bright—a no-frills spot designed for quick turnover. It’s an ideal pit stop after a day of shopping or a walk through nearby park spaces. One thing to keep in mind: space is tight. If you visit during the afternoon rush, be prepared to wait a few minutes for a counter stool or take your dessert to go. The sound of the industrial shavers whirring in the background is the signature soundtrack of this shop, a rhythmic hum that signals your order is almost ready. If you are exploring the culinary landscape of Oahu and crave a refreshing, authentic Taiwanese treat, this shop serves as a reliable go-to for locals and visitors alike.

It was so good we went twice in our four day trip. Their cookies are really really good. They have a wide variety of flavors and even do shakes. The only constructive feedback we would give is that their malted shakes could use slightly more malt. Their soft serve was really good and it is all plant-based / non-dairy, although you cannot tell and should not deter anybody :-)

If you’re extremely lactose-intolerant like me and miss how good a real dessert tastes, this place is where you need to go. Get the warm cookie sundae with miso caramel cookie and condensed topping. You’ll wish they had this back home wherever you’re from.

I finally tried out Niu Soft Serve Parlour recently and it was such a great experience. To be honest, I usually don't seek out dairy free treats because it just doesn't matter much to me, but I was really impressed with how they pull it off. Even though it is completely plant-based, the soft serve was incredibly tasty and had a creamy texture that you would expect from a traditional dairy spot. It didn't feel like I was compromising on the quality or richness at all. Another thing that makes this place stand out is their Filipino inspired flavors. They have options like ube, pandan, and coconut, which are all delicious, and they even have calamansi if you want something a bit more bright and tart. It is really nice to see those specific flavors represented so well in a chilled treat. The colors are vibrant and the taste is very authentic to the actual ingredients. I went with my daughter and we decided to split a bowl, which turned out to be a great move. The portion size was plenty for both of us to share and feel satisfied. The space itself is bright and clean, making it a nice little stop for a quick dessert. It is definitely a place I would head back to, especially since the flavors are so unique compared to your standard vanilla or chocolate shops. Whether you care about the dairy free aspect or not, the taste alone makes it worth a visit.

Most amazing ice cream sundaies ever! Brought my 5 kids and they all agreed. We all got different custom orders and they were all as beautiful as they were delicious. Highlight was the warm Kulolo with coconut ice cream and macadamia nuts and also their chocolate chip cookies fresh baked from the oven are amazing. Best on Oahu! Vegan coconut soft serve but you would never know because it’s so creamy and absolutely delicious. All the Keiki was 5 ⭐️ and “we are definitely coming back”

Omg!!! Fantastic vegan treats.. ube soft serve was Heaven and on top the kulolo.. mind blowing!! If I could eat only one thing for the rest of my life it would be Niu's kulolo sundae topped with the ube soft serve!!! Staff is the friendliest!!! Young man at the counter even recommended the Peace Cafe across the street if I was looking for more vegan eats. Side note: I read one of the other reviews about not accepting credit card tips and that is no longer the case. They use a sophisticated payment machine where you can easily add a credit card tips amount!

I had such a great experience here. The soft serve was absolutely amazing, it was perfectly creamy, smooth, and full of flavor. You can really tell they take pride in the quality of what they serve. On top of that, the staff was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. Their positive attitude genuinely made the visit even better. That’s why it was honestly a bit disappointing to learn that they only accept cash tips and not credit card tips. In 2026, most people travel and pay with their phones, including their credit cards. I rarely carry cash anymore, and I really wanted to tip the team because they truly deserved it. With how expensive everything is in today’s economy, I can only imagine how much service workers, especially locals or students working these jobs rely on tips. They absolutely earned one from me, and I wish there had been a digital option available. Overall, the product and service was outstanding. I just hope they consider adding credit card tipping in the future so customers like me can properly show appreciation for the hardworking staff.

No matter how many times I’ve been here the ice cream is always good. The hot kulolo sundae is top tier, dare I say I prefer this over the sweet lady (iykyk). I also love that it’s dairy free, so my lactose-intolerant self can go about my business without worry. The owner is such a nice person, and the staff are always helpful. If you haven't gone, you need to.

We went here at about 2 pm on a Sunday. It was quiet when we arrived, but packed (line out the door) when we left. I guess we have that effect. My daughter dragged us here for the ice cream. I stayed for the peanut butter. They are super friendly and the food is top-notch. Worth a visit if you don't mind getting a bit away from the main drag of Waikiki.

Visited last month for the first time and my TIP would be to get a combination of flavors! I got Niu (Coconut) and Ube with Hot Kulolo! Absolutely loved that it is Non-Dairy and my next visit I will try more toppings. Very delicious and I will be back!! Located at 2320 South King St. Honolulu, HI 96826 - In Old Stadium Mall - By L&L Hawaiian BBQ and Kozo Sushi. The cool thing about this shopping center are the options for food and entertainment (Favorite combo is Food+ Clawsters + Niu)

This is a hidden gem in Honolulu! They stay open till 8 pm (Friday and Saturday is 9 pm, Sunday is 6pm) There is a parking lot and some street parking right outside the store so it’s convenient but it was a bit packed when we went on Friday night at around 8 pm. The staff was really nice and friendly, they gave great recommendations and samples, they even helped us look for seats! This place has less than 20 seats so it might take a while to wait if you want to eat there:) There were so many options on their menu! We had a make your own bowl with coconut, ube and creamy lemon soft serve. The portion was decent, the sesame brittle and mochi bites were my favorite toppings! Everything was vegan so it didn’t feel heavy at all after we finished all our soft serve! They make their own waffle cones but it was sold out that night (it must be good tho!) There were some pies and pints options in the fridge. We would love to go back and try out more options!!
