Nimitz Bar-Bq House Restaurant
About
A Neighborhood Staple for Island BBQ
Tucked away near the industrial pulse of Honolulu, Nimitz Bar-Bq House is the kind of no-frills kitchen where the scent of charred meat and sweet-savory smoke greets you before you even hit the door. This spot operates with a strictly functional charm; it is built for the hungry professional and the local resident looking for a substantial lunch without the fuss of white-tablecloth service.
Smoky Flavors and Local Heart
The kitchen specializes in plates that define local comfort food. You will find generous scoops of macaroni salad beside portions of BBQ chicken or pork that have been slow-grilled to achieve that distinct, caramelized outer layer. The menu leans into the traditions of Hawaiian-style plate lunches, favoring volume and bold, familiar seasonings over complex plating. The transition from the busy highway to the warm, cafeteria-style interior is quick, making it a go-to for those who value efficiency during a midday break.
The Practical Details
Expect a buzzing, canteen-like atmosphere where the sound of clinking cutlery and quick, friendly orders dominates the room. It gets loud when the lunch rush peaks, and while the parking area can get tight as nearby workers descend on the shop, the service moves at a clip that keeps the line flowing. If you are exploring the area around the Honolulu harbor or heading toward the airport, this is an authentic stop to refuel with a classic, belly-filling meal that hits the spot every time.

Got the spicy chicken BBQ. Chicken had no spice at all and only a light sweet BBQ flavour. Kimchi had no flavour at all. Tasted like watery cabbage. Price was very expensive for this type of meal so there is no excuse for not doing better. Wish I had gone to Macdonalds

The food I rather just eat the kimchi soup other then the meat Jun. I rather go to Kim Chee because there portion size is bigger and better tasting. The service was good but it is little bit hard to understand. The atmosphere is good only because it is empty and there is not much people. KIM CHEE IS BETTER. The only thing I like here is the soup.

Nimitz Korean Bbq is a very mom and pop Korean Restaurant. It might not have the best service, but it does have great and authentic Korean food! I am Korean-American, so I encourage you to please enter with a gracious mind as I believe the husband takes orders and the wife cooks in the kitchen. The man up front is nice, but I can tell that when he speaks English it can sound like he is being rude/harsh, but that is not his intention. It’s simply language barrier! When we started speaking Korean, his demeanor was more comforting! The food is large portions and can be on the pricier side, but the amount definitely makes up for it! I noticed a different review saying the prices listed are in Korean, it is not! It’s simply stating their menu items in Korean. Left side English and right side Korean!

Havent been here in a while, this is a no frills mom and pop run Korean restaurant located in the Nimitz/Airport shopping center plaza where Subway, Bale and Joe's Grille is located, been going here for over 15 years. Prices are still good in this economy, their special combo plates are massive and run you a little over $20 but didnt want to eat that much meat 😄 Called in my order so I didnt have to wait. The Korean guy answered the phone and if you dont know him, his english is limited and he doesnt speak much so could be mistook as rude....all good with that as ive been coming here for years🤙 Ordered a Mini Fish Jun, Mini Spicy Pork (both were $9.55 each plus tax.... Try finding a Korean plate lunch at that price) and a #16 combo with 2 pc Spam tenpura, Bbq beef, Bbq chicken, Shrimp Tempura and Mandoo... Winnahs for a little over $15 bucks. Hit the spot, made my lunch run seamless. Cash and credit card accepted. 5 stars🤙🤙

The meat Jun is the best!!!! I was pleasantly surprised when I took that first bite of meat Jun. Looking at the outside and walking in to this small hole in the wall, you start to second guess yourself but then you order your food, which the cost is crazy reasonable, and you eat the food…5 stars! Broke da mouth Meat Jun

For what it is, a little hole in the wall place, it was really good. Short ribs and bbq pork were tender and delicious. I could skip the macaroni salad and the kimchi was pretty disappointing, but the prices were fair.
