Fresh Catch at the Honolulu Waterfront

Stepping into Nico's Pier 38 is an exercise in authentic island life. Located right at the working Honolulu harbor, you can watch the fishing boats unload their haul while you wait for your buzzer to go off. It is loud, busy, and unpretentious, with the salty scent of the Pacific mingling with the smell of searing Ahi.

The Poke Bar & Signature Bowls

Chef Nico Chaize transformed this industrial-adjacent spot into a local institution, famous primarily for the Furikake Pan-Seared Ahi. The fish is as fresh as it gets—often caught just hours before hitting the grill. If you want the full experience, head straight to the poke bar where the spicy ahi cubes are tossed with just the right amount of sesame oil and ogo. You will find mostly locals here during the weekday lunch rush, grabbing a plate lunch before heading back to the office.

Things to Know Before You Go

The space is large and airy, but expect a scramble for tables during peak hours. Parking in the lot requires a bit of patience as the area is active with port operations throughout the day. If you prefer a quieter meal, the evening service offers a more relaxed pace where you can enjoy a local craft beer while looking out over the masts of the fishing fleet. It’s the kind of place where you come for the quality of the raw product rather than white-tablecloth service, making it the perfect stop for those who value substance over spectacle.

My wife and I had a wonderful evening at Nico’s!!! To start we ordered their famous snow crab. The flavor was unreal! No doubt the best crab I’ve ever had. The meat was soft and flavorful and paired excellent with the garlic butter sauce. I ordered the Tuna ahi steak medium rare (chefs choice) and it did not disappoint. It came with rice, carrots, green beans, and a delicious ranch like sauce. My wife ordered shrimp scampi pasta. Everything was so fresh and very delicious. Our waiter Jon was very friendly and kind and was spot on, informing us of the evening specials in popular menu items. I would highly recommend coming here if you enjoy seafood. They really know what they’re doing. Everything was well priced. I would come here weekly if I lived in Oahu!!!

Our party of 8 had the best time on the patio. Dinner was excellent from tbe starters all the way through dessert! With 8 of us, we tried everything!! The atmosphere was fun with live music and the bay next to us. The service was great!! The food amazing! I didn't get photos of everything, because we devoured it too quickly!!

Restaurant is located on the waterfront. There is self parking along the building and an adjacent parking lot. Dining interior or exterior of the restaurant. The menu includes pizza, chicken, beef, and several seafood dishes. The prices were reasonable, and the portions were large. The service is very good. There was a full bar. The dishes served were good. The restaurant has live music in the evenings.

My husband and I are on vacation in Oahu, and wanted a place with seafood options for dinner. We always joke that we need to “pre-eat” before going to a place for dinner when we’re on vacation because the portions are so small. That was not the case here. We ordered the Poke Nachos, and were surprised by how much poke was on them. My husband ordered the catch of the day, and we were also happy with the portion size of the tuna and the sides. I ordered a soup bowl and the chicken Caesar salad, both great as well. We definitely recommend this place! I have photos of the nachos and the special.

I’ve been to Nico’s many times over the years. Always come for lunch on my trips to Honolulu. The relaxed atmosphere and quality foot and service is a welcome treat for enjoying. Cool to eat the freshest fish possible with a harbor view. Get the special of the day whatever it is, can’t for wrong. Staff is always friendly and the beer is always cold. Check it out.

I met up with one of my best friends for lunch on my recent trip to Hawaii at Nico’s Pier 38. It was on the water in the downtown shipping piers. This is a large restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating and a bar. There is also a sushi bar to get fresh fish and poke. My friend got some sashimi as an appetizer which he approved. For lunch we both got combo plates, he got Hosin BBQ chicken and hamburger steak and I got crispy Orange chicken with chicken katsu. The food was great and the portions were big. There wasn’t any table service, you ordered at the cashier when you arrived and found your own seat. The prices were good for the quality and quantity of food. If your in Hawaii on Oahu looking for a place to eat where locals go I recommend this place.

Everyone there was soo nice, great atmosphere. Lotsa tables both inside and out. They had live music too. The bartender was busy but still she was so polite taking and delivering food. And the food, yeaya! I had the pork belly and they gave 4 large pieces. The dressing on my bros salad was so good, they had an extra to go container of it so we took it home and the lady at the front desk was telling us how she grrs it to dip taro Chips in. Would absolutely go again. (Plus it's near costco 😆)

So Nico’s is close to the airport and we were really hungry so this is a great first stop after a long flight. You aren’t going here for the island vibe or scenery though since it’s at a marina just as it suggests. This is a seat yourself establishment, where you grab your menu and order at the register. We found no trouble with seating and there is quite a bit. So there is really no service except the bartender who was nice enough. This the 3 star review for service and atmosphere. I ordered the Catch of the Day and a burger. The days catch was a panko crusted Ahi cut covered in a garlic gravy that was delicious. It also came with Mac salad and rice. The burger was solid but nothing unique about it. Lastly I ordered a very tasty Pier 38 punch cocktail with four different kinds of rum. At the End of the Day Nico’s served its purpose but will not make the list of MUST have stops in Oahu! But I’d come back after a long flight again.

Nico’s Pier 38 delivers a casual, authentic seafood experience where freshness is the main strength. The poke bowl is especially good, with clean, well-cut fish and balanced seasoning that lets the quality of the ahi stand out. The ahi steak is another highlight, cooked properly and flavorful without being overcomplicated, making it both satisfying and reliable. Combined with generous portions, reasonable prices, and a relaxed harbor-side atmosphere, it’s an easy place to enjoy solid local seafood without unnecessary flair.

Nico's was a nice dinner stop for our large family and friends group. The menu had tons of different options which I would imagine should satisfy most people. Our appetizers were super tasty but unfortunately, I didn't love my fish entree. Drinks were decent but could have been stronger for sure. Atmosphere was lively with great views from our spot outside.
