Nalu Health Bar & Cafe (1170 Auahi St Suite 145)
About
Fueling Your Kaka’ako Adventures
Stepping into this corner of the Auahi Street storefront feels like a breath of fresh, tropical air amidst the industrial-chic backdrop of Honolulu’s most creative district. Nalu Health Bar & Cafe operates with a focused mission: providing clean, plant-forward nutrition for those constantly on the move between surf sessions and urban errands.
The Tropical Powerhouse
The menu leans heavily into the superfood trend, with signature acai bowls that act as the perfect cooling antidote to the humid afternoon sun. You will smell the faint sweetness of blended dragon fruit and fresh berries the moment you walk through the door. Their menu doesn't shy away from hearty options either, offering artisanal toasts topped with locally sourced ingredients and refreshing green smoothies that manage to taste bright rather than grassy.
A Local Rhythms Setting
The aesthetic is minimalist and airy, utilizing light woods and open seating that invites casual conversation. It is a favored spot for remote workers or fitness enthusiasts looking for a quick, wholesome recovery meal. While the space is undeniably refreshing, be prepared for a bit of a wait during the peak lunch rush when the surrounding office crowds flock here for their daily nutrient hit. If you are heading down specifically for a quiet morning coffee, snag one of the few outdoor chairs early to soak in the bustling energy of the Kaka’ako neighborhood while you sip.

Used to love this spot! The new employees are making me hate coming here. Last time I called and placed an order 15 min in advance, and when I arrived they were talking about personal stuff. When I ordered and paid they said “oh no I forgot to make that” and started. Today I tried calling for 30 mins and got here when they didn’t answer. I told them their phone might be broken and the unfriendly cashier told me they stop answering the phone 30 min before they close. She seemed bothered by me even entering the door which sucks I used to love coming here. I left a positive review a year ago, but somethings not making sense with the new staff. Un-smiley and seemingly bothered by taking and making orders

Sitting here at Nalu Health Bar & Cafe at Ward, finishing a turkey panini and smoothie that cost nearly $30. My side salad came with literally a drop of balsamic dressing. When I politely asked for a little more so I would not be eating dry lettuce, I was told I had to pay extra for additional dressing. Honestly, I was shocked. It is not even about the cost of the dressing. It is the principle and hospitality behind it. Small gestures matter. Making a customer feel nickel-and-dimed over salad dressing after spending $30 leaves a bad taste. Come on Nalu’s. Do better.

the first date smoothie was just ok but the steak wrap was delicious.

For a quick bite to eat or a smoothie, this place is a great stop after yoga or a hike. The lines are sometimes long, but the wait usually isn't too bad. I like the wraps and the smoothies, but I know a lot of people go there for the vegetarian options. The prices are a little high, but that's the price of convenience and freshness (and rent there).

Unfortunately, the quality has gone down. I found rotten avocado pieces hidden inside my sandwich. At first I thought it might just be the sauce, but when I cut into the avocado it was clearly spoiled.

Outstanding customer service. Friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic. It appeared that the ladies working there really enjoyed their job and took pride in their work. Fresh ingredients, food made with love. The breakfast sandwich and fresh juice was delicious. We will definitely be coming back! Mahalo Nui 🤙🏽

I ordered ahead online and it was done in about 20 minutes. I arrived a couple minutes after it said my order was ready and it was pretty quick to pick it up. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if it wasn’t kept cold or what happened, but the açaí I had ordered was just liquid at the bottom. It was like eating fruit with juice under it. Thankfully though I also ordered their Turkey sub and that was definitely something I would go back for!

After the gym I was hungry and decided to eat healthy food here)) I ordered a roast beef sandwich and a moana bowl (acai bowl). They serve salad with the sandwich, the lettuce was fresh and the sauce was sweet and sour. The acai bowl was sooo delicious🤤! I liked it all very much! The service is fast, the girls are very nice. I'll definitely be back!

FRESH couldn't describe it better. You can seriously taste the freshness and quality of their ingredients. My family's personal favorite is the Turkey Pesto Sandwich! It's a perfect combination of turkey and pesto. They really do not skimp on the turkey, as well. In fact - they give a heaping serving of turkey. On top of that (literally) the croissant bread they use is so buttery and flakey - its really perfection in a sandwich. While it may look small - don't be deceived! They pack it on. That's true Aloha right there. Also, I've gotten the Portobello Mushroom sandwich which is my second favorite. "Yuck! Mushrooms!" is what one might say but noooo - you must try their Portobello Sandwich. It has a seriously beautiful marinade used within the sandwich that just makes it so tasty and refreshing. They use ciabatta bread, I think and its very appropriate. It is pretty satisfying but may not be quite as filling as the Turkey...for obvious reasons. The Turkey Pesto sandwich is about $10 - which is well worth it. The Portobello Mushroom sandwich is $11-12 (sorry I forgot-something like that). A little higher in price but still very satisfying!! Prices are around $10-15 for their menu items. Please do yourself a favor and support a true gem in Kakaako (amongst all the other overpriced eateries).
