A Waikiki Staple for On-the-Go Bites
Steps away from the bustling surf at Waikiki Beach, Musubi Cafe Iyasume serves as the ultimate pitstop for those seeking an authentic taste of Hawaii. This compact spot specializes in musubi, the beloved local snack that pairs perfectly with a morning walk along the coast or a sunset session on the sand. You will find a steady stream of locals and travelers alike ducking into this Seaside Avenue location, drawn by the scent of toasted nori and seasoned rice.
Crafting the Perfect Musubi
At Iyasume, the technique is everything. The team expertly compresses high-quality rice with savory fillings, from the classic Spam to more adventurous combinations like egg, bacon, or ume. The signature Spam musubi features a perfect sear on the meat, providing that essential salty punch against the slightly sweet, vinegared rice. Watch closely at the counter—the assembly line is a masterclass in efficiency, with every piece wrapped tightly to maintain its structure until the very last bite.
What to Expect
Space is intentionally minimal here. You are not coming for a sprawling dining room; you are here for fuel. Expect a bit of a line during the lunch rush, as visitors grab bulk orders for beach days. The energy is fast-paced and efficient, reflecting the grab-and-go culture of Honolulu. Whether you are grabbing a quick breakfast before heading to Diamond Head or picking up a late-afternoon snack after shopping, these hand-held treats hit the spot with a satisfying crunch and balanced flavor. Don't be surprised if you find yourself back in line for a second round before your trip ends—they are just that addictive.

We came here so much during our trip! The line can be long, especially during peak hours such as 8-9am in the morning, but moves decently fast (maybe half an hour to line up and get food). We tried a lot of different musubi options and they were all great! For about the same price, these are much better than the ones in the ABC stores. There isn't a seating area so you'll have to take your food with you but it is pretty easy to eat on the go.

If you want a quick morning breakfast or mid-day snack, this is the perfect place to pick a yummy musubi or bento. My personal favorite is the shrimp tempura musubi and gyudon

Food: Super good musubi with an awesome selection. I chose one with rice, spam, eel, tamago, and avocado, and it was perfectly assembled. Every bite was balanced, flavorful, and very satisfying. You can really taste the care and attention put into each piece. Service: Service was great. It was just one Japanese lady working, and she was very kind and welcoming. Even while handling everything herself, she was efficient and pleasant, which made the experience feel very personal. Ambiance: Small, casual, and full of character. It feels like a true local spot and makes for a fun, quick stop while walking around Waikiki.

Stopped by Musubi & Bento IYASUME for a quick bite before a tour we had booked where the pick up was in front of the hotel across the street. I have been eager to try some Musubi and Onigiri for some time. It was the perfect thing to have that wasn’t heavy and it was delicious. It’s a small shop but has a great selection!

My partner and I stumbled upon this across from our hotel - what a find!! He loveeessss musubi so stumbling upon this made the trip. 100% worth the wait (when there is one) and highly recommend the black peppered spam musubi and the regular spam. I also had a kelp one, everything was so fresh and very tasty.
