Moena Cafe
About
A Local Favorite for Morning Comfort in Kaimuki
Stepping into Moena Cafe, you are immediately greeted by the aroma of freshly roasted beans and the sizzle of house-made hash hitting a hot griddle. Situated in the heart of the Kaimuki neighborhood, this spot has moved beyond being just a neighborhood breakfast joint to become a staple for those seeking a elevated start to their Honolulu mornings.
Refined Comfort Food with Island Flair
Chef Alan Takasaki’s influence is evident in the menu, which trades standard diner fare for thoughtful, ingredient-driven compositions. The signature Short Rib Loco Moco is a must-try, featuring tender, slow-cooked beef that falls apart at the touch of a fork, served over a bed of fluffy local rice. If you lean toward the sweet side, the signature crepes—often dusted with powdered sugar and filled with seasonal fruits sourced from nearby Oahu farms—offer a light, delicate alternative to the heavier stack of pancakes found elsewhere in the city.
The Pulse of the Kaimuki Dining Scene
The energy here is infectious, characterized by the low hum of conversation and the steady clatter of ceramic plates. It is a bustling space, so be prepared for a lively atmosphere that can get quite loud during the weekend brunch rush. While parking in Kaimuki can occasionally be a challenge, navigating the side streets is a small price to pay for what is arguably some of the best brunch in Honolulu. Whether you are a local grabbing a quick bite before heading into town or a visitor looking to experience the authentic culinary landscape of the island, Moena Cafe captures the casual yet ambitious spirit of modern Hawaiian dining.

We had a party of 7 and were seated right away on a Sunday AM for brunch. We have 4 kids various ages and all of them found multiple things on the menu they wanted to order. The banana pancakes, sausage hash, and fried rice are HIGHLY recommended. Friendly and lovely staff. Thank you Moena Cafe!

Found this spot after hiking Koko Head and oh my God! This is probably the most tender short rib loco moco I've ever had! I paired it with fried rice and had an amazing meal! The staff are amazing and super friendly! I would definitely come back and try their other dishes! If you want an instant reward after a challenging hike, or just craving great food, check this place out!

Best Kalua pig Benedict I’ve ever had, probably the best Kalua dish I’ve ever had as well. My wife loves their Acai bowl. Would highly recommend!

Perfect and simple setting. The food is fantastic and the service is outstanding 👏 The serving amount is perfect and the set up is beautifully 😍 pleasing to the eyes. We will come back and sample other menu items And the coffee ☕️ is "brewed by the cup" that shouts "Welcome!! Let us invest in you." Everyone needs to eat here!! Don't forget they have t-shirts, hats, and coffee beans to purchase 😋

Nice, comfortable, simple cafe serving good local breakfast and lunch food. I ordered the Kalua Pig Benedict with an addition of avocado. It was very delicious. My wife ordered the savory crepe which she also found delicious. We enjoyed our lunch at Moena Cafe and found the service efficient and friendly.

Cute spot to grab a bite. We popped in for breakfast. Portions are on the smaller side for the price you pay but overall food was delicious, service and location were great. Would definitely revisit if in the area again.
