Design Your Perfect Pasta Bowl in Kaimuki
Stepping into Mio Pastalogy feels like walking into a culinary laboratory where the final product is entirely up to you. Located in the heart of Honolulu's Kaimuki neighborhood, this spot shifts the focus away from traditional white-tablecloth Italian dining and toward a fast-casual, build-your-own-adventure experience. The smell of simmering garlic and fresh basil hits you the moment the door swings open, a bright counter-service promise of a meal made to your exact specifications.
The process is straightforward but addictive: pick your noodle—whether you’re in the mood for traditional spaghetti, penne, or perhaps a heartier fettuccine—and pair it with a sauce that spans from classic marinara to a creamy, rich alfredo or their signature pesto. The open kitchen layout lets you hear the distinct hiss of a sauté pan as the chefs toss your selections together. It is an ideal stop for a quick lunch after browsing the nearby boutique shops or a low-key dinner when you want something comforting but personalized.
While the atmosphere is upbeat and casual, be prepared for a bit of a challenge when it comes to parking. Kaimuki street parking can be tight during peak dinner hours, so giving yourself a few extra minutes to navigate the blocks around Waialae Avenue is a smart move. Once you grab your bowl, head for one of the smaller tables near the window to watch the neighborhood walk by. It’s a utilitarian space, but the speed of service and the ability to customize every ingredient make it a local favorite for those who know exactly what they want on their plate.

Fun spot with both Japanese and made to order pasta … they sell pastries too!—- authentic bentos, good chew on the pasta, and the milk buns are great too! They also sell eggs imported from Japan. 🙏🏻

Probably the EST and FINEST bowl of Beef Bolognese on fresh Tagalatele noodles since I’ve been Oahu for under $22 dollars added eggplant and muchrooms. Pretty authentic pasta dishes and the noodles, sauces and breads are outstanding for the price. It was a decent portion yet I could have eaten another bowl. I pro tip I suggest not getting the garlic bread which was actually good but for $2.50 for 2 small discs not worth it, instead purchase one of their baguettes for $3.50-$4.50 it’s more and the same bread as their garlic bread. I pitches their bread which was to me like manapua, bao, and a dinner roll. They have a bento section, and you can order Japanese type spaghetti am choose between 6 different noodle Style. Tagatelle pairs well with a Bolognese because the noodles hug onto the sauce. Probably the most AFFORDABLE Authentic Italian Pasta shop on Oahu especially in downtown Honolulu. Next time I come I’ll order 2 orders of pasta or a Pasta and a bento.

If you enjoy pasta, this is the place for you ! Relatively simple and plain location on the busy street of McCully. There is a good amount of parking right in front of the place and usually has plenty open spots to park. This is my 2nd time here and I have to say that thus is officially one of my favorite pasta spots 😋 They have a good amount of variety on their menu as you may see. Friendly staff, and moderate waiting times after ordering your food. Love the idea of mix and match pasta ! There are actually two different restaurants i side of this shop. The other has lunch & dinner plates...nothing crazy. Just a heads up in case you go and you're wondering 🤔 Food came out hot 🔥 They had seasonings on the table to make it hotter, cheesy-er, etc. Also, they have a bunch of sweets to choose from for dessert 🍨 Most of it looks fantastic and looks to be fresh. Recommend !!! 🫡
