Michel's
About
Dinner with a Front-Row Seat to the Pacific
Stepping into Michel’s is a transition into Old World elegance that feels miles away from the neon pulse of central Waikiki. Located right on the edge of the sand at the Colony Surf Hotel, this Gold Coast institution is defined by the rhythm of waves crashing just feet from your table. It is the kind of place that demands a dress code—collared shirts for gentlemen are expected—and rewards that effort with one of the most storied sunset views in Honolulu.
French Techniques, Local Ingredients
The menu remains a dedicated exercise in French classicism. Chef de Cuisine Hardy hails from a tradition of tableside service that is becoming increasingly rare; don’t be surprised to see flames rising from a copper pan as your server prepares their signature Lobster Bisque or the classic Steak Diane right before your eyes. The menu balances heavy, rich sauces with the freshness of local catch, offering a sophisticated counterpoint to the island’s more casual poke spots.
The Gold Coast Atmosphere
The lighting is dim, favoring a romantic, candlelit glow that makes the white linen tables pop against the dark glass of the ocean-facing windows. While the atmosphere is undeniably refined, be prepared for the acoustics; the room can get lively when the house pianist is playing, and the open-air design means the salt air can sometimes make the floor feel a bit slick. It is best suited for anniversaries or those seeking a quiet, high-end reprieve from the tourist crowds. If you secure a table near the glass, you’ll find yourself watching the surfers at Tongg’s break until the light fades completely, turning the ocean into a vast, obsidian backdrop for your meal.

Dining here is a truly unforgettable experience, offering one of the most romantic and sophisticated atmospheres you can find right on the water's edge. The view of the sunset over the Pacific is spectacular, providing a stunning backdrop to a meal that feels both timeless and upscale. The service is impeccable, with a level of traditional tableside preparation that adds a sense of theater and elegance to the evening. Every dish is beautifully presented and highlights high-quality ingredients, making it a perfect choice for a special celebration or a memorable night out. It is a classic destination that perfectly captures the beauty and charm of the coast.

If you want to feel special dine here. It really doesn't get any better than this. I went with a 3 course prefix dinner @ $100.00 for a party of eleven. That's a savings of $10 per person. After it's all said and done, I wouldn't reccomend the prefix menu. The prefix restricts you to an 8pm service and the ocean view is missed. The location, service, atmosphere and food are unmatched. The show stopper is the escargot. It's so rich and filling. I barely touched my entree. The steaks and grilled fish with sides were cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that they ran out of both wines I selected after the first bottles were served.

It was our first time eating here in HNL, but the price was worth it. The food was delicious! But in all honesty the most memorable part for us was the gentleman who helped us with wine and the waitress Jill! Speaking to them made our time 100x more enjoyable! Very well informed gentleman and Jill made it feel like we were eating with a friend! Thank you so much!

The view alone was worth the trip. The souffle, bouillabase, and escargots were exceptional. Every part of the staff was attentive, friendly, and professional. Celebrating my wife's birthday here was a wonderful experience.

My wife and I came to eat here on our very last night of our honeymoon and it was so well worth it! Our sever Jahdi was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The food was amazing and we had an incredible view of the oceanfront right where we were sitting. I highly recommend this place!

We had a wonderful dining experience at Michel’s! The food, service, and ambience were all excellent. Thank you, Craig, for your outstanding service — you made our evening even more special. We ordered the 5-course meal and the New York steak, both of which were exceptional. Unfortunately, we had to leave before dessert due to a prior engagement, but Craig kindly took care of packing our food and dessert so thoughtfully. Highly recommend Michel’s at the Colony Surf for anyone looking for a memorable fine dining experience in Honolulu.

Our waiter Sy was amazing first off. Very nice restaurant with beautiful sunset views. The salmon was the best I’ve ever had in my life. My husband had a steak and lobster and it was delicious. Our son had the beef Wellington and he said it was amazing. We were celebrating our anniversary and they brought us a wonderful crème brûlée. The best I’ve ever tasted. We still did order the bananas foster as that’s my husband‘s favorite and that too was amazing. The entire staff was friendly and attentive. We will definitely return.

Excellent food and service to match. The 5-course tasting menu showcases two of their table-side preparations: lobster bisque and Caesar salad. (Don't tell Hy's, but this one is better.) The wine pairings didn't always match for us, but all were lovely on their own. The staff is attentive without being intrusive. Our server Michael was welcoming, knowledgeable, and entertaining. We will be returning in a few weeks for their monthly wine dinner.

First time visitor. Fine dining beach front. Specifies strick dress code but somehow a person went unseen with obvious profanity on their shirt kinda blew the ambiance. Food was delicious. Our server (pictured) was very attentive. Beautiful sunset view. Steak and lamb chops were superb. Atmosphere well worth the costs of food and drink.

10/10 experience!!! Well, there’s free parking for starters! Wonderful food and amazing drinks. We have not one complaint. Everything was perfect. The Salmon entree was very tasty and the angel hair pasta was a great choice. The NY Steak entree was perfect and very flavorful. The presentations were nice additions to the experience. I try Banana Foster in every state possible and this was the absolute best I’ve ever had. It was not over doused in caramel sauce or unnecessary crumbles, it was satisfyingly simple, which was perfect for my taste. Like I said 10/10 experience.
