Masa's Cafeteria
About
A Slice of Honolulu’s History
Stepping into Masa's Cafeteria feels like wandering into a time capsule of local flavor tucked away in the heart of Honolulu. This isn’t a place for white-tablecloth pretense; it is a community anchor where the air smells of slow-cooked meats and buttery, toasted bread. If you are hunting for authentic plate lunches, this neighborhood spot delivers the kind of food that reminds residents of childhood summers.
The Flavor of the Islands
Known for its unpretentious approach to comfort cooking, the kitchen focuses on rotating daily specials that satisfy the soul. Their fried chicken is a local favorite, characterized by a thin, crispy exterior that yields to juicy meat, often paired with that essential scoop of creamy macaroni salad and two scoops of steamed rice. The menu is a roadmap of Hawaiian-style cafeteria classics, prepared with a consistency that only comes from years of practice.
What to Expect When You Arrive
Prepare for a laid-back, utilitarian dining space where the clatter of cafeteria trays serves as the soundtrack. It is a high-traffic lunch destination, so the line can wrap around the counter during the midday rush. While finding a parking spot in this part of town requires a bit of patience, the trade-off is a hearty, filling meal that hits the spot without breaking your wallet. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite during a workday or sitting down for an affordable lunch, Masa’s provides a reliable, no-frills experience that defines Honolulu’s culinary landscape.

Good taste great! The chubby guy taking your order will ruin it. Half my order was missing, he claimed he didn’t charge me for it and I had to pay again but my first payment clearly mirrored my initial order, it just wasn’t in the bag lol. Ultimate I paid twice for half of my orde

Recommend by a friend...Wednesday special is a fresh corned beef with cabbage. Although I forgot to take a photo of the plate, I was impressed. The plate had two scoops of rice, mac salad, and a hefty portion of corned beef and cabbage. Cabbage was soft with butter mixed in. The corned beef was pretty soft, fat was rendered down and moist overall. I highly recommend. Small suggestion to the restaurant, cut against the grain of the meat will allow it to be more tender and easy to chew. My coworker mentioned the andagi and pork cutlet was a bit dry. Service was friendly and was helpful. The atmosphere was good, very standard local drive inn like place. Nothing special. Photos show the outside/inside and the menu on Wednesday as of Nov 6, 2024. I forgot to mention, the price to amount of food is pretty reasonable, however their website price is wrong. Due to inflation ask them for the correct price.
