Understanding the Marugame Udon Waikiki Line Wait Time
One of the most common questions from visitors involves the marugame udon waikiki line wait time. While you might see a queue extending down Kuhio Avenue, do not let it discourage you. The system is incredibly refined; once you enter the line, it typically moves with surprising speed due to the lightning-fast service at the ordering and tempura stations. Generally, arriving during off-peak hours—such as mid-afternoon or late evening—can help you bypass the heaviest crowds, though even at peak dinner hours, the wait is usually a matter of minutes rather than hours.
Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes
- Nikutama Udon: The standout favorite, featuring perfectly chewy noodles topped with savory, sweet, thinly sliced beef and a poached egg that adds a velvety richness to the broth.
- Kake Udon: A classic, minimalist dish that highlights the pure quality of the hand-made udon noodles and a clean, flavorful dashi broth.
- Tempura Sides: Don't miss the crispy shrimp tempura or the sliced sweet potato; these golden, perfectly fried accompaniments are the essential crunch your bowl needs.
- Creamy Broth Udon: A fan-favorite for those seeking comfort, this dish offers a thicker, more indulgent sauce that coats every noodle strand in pure flavor.
Location & Practical Tips
Situated in the heart of the district at 2310 Kuhio Ave, the restaurant is highly accessible for those staying in nearby hotels. Parking in Waikiki can be challenging, so it is recommended to utilize public transit or rideshare services whenever possible. The line moves fast and there’s always seats. We got large #1 (soup udon with thinly sliced beef) and a #12 (tempura don/rice bowl) to share. In hindsight, we should’ve replaced #12 with a basic udon and added tempura on the side, as it’s the noodles that are special! The tempura comes with two shrimp, a dark meat chicken, a zucchini spear, and a slice of sweet potato. Surprised there’s no kabocha pumpkin. Imitation crab meat and cheese are among the additional tempura you can add.

Had a great lunch at Marugame Udon Waikiki! We arrived around noon and were pleasantly surprised there was no long line. We ordered the kake udon with tempura and the nikutama udon, and both were delicious. The udon noodles tasted freshly made with the perfect chewy texture, and the broth was rich and flavorful. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Waikiki and craving comforting udon!

Marugame Udon is a place we come back to every single time we’re in Honolulu, and truthfully, it never disappoints. It is absolutely outstanding. Our go-to order is the sweet beef udon with curry sauce, fresh pulled noodles, and a perfectly cracked egg on top and it is pure comfort food perfection. The noodles are always fresh and chewy, the broth is rich and flavorful, and everything just comes together so perfectly. Honestly, this is the kind of meal that feeds and soothes the soul. Simple, comforting, satisfying, and packed with flavor. Even with the lineups, it’s always worth the wait. If you’re visiting Waikiki and want something warm, authentic, and unforgettable, Marugame Udon is a must. Don’t be intimidated by the line up, it does move quite quickly and well worth the wait!

This is the best spot we've eaten at while on our trip in Ohau. We've gone twice, one for dinner and today for lunch. Friday for dinner time the line was out the door and down the block. Today it was a short line but shortly after we sat down the line started up. Even if there is a line it doesn't take long to order and get food. They're really good about cleaning tables and helping you find a seat. Food is amazing! If you can only go once get the Udon noodles, they offer a number of varieties. After ordering there is an area in line for tempura shrimp, panto sweet potato, and 6-8 other offerings all reasonably priced. You must clear your own table it's a courtesy for others as it is very busy. Pretty quite because everyone is busy eating. The process is 1) read the menu on the menu boards, order by number at the window, pick your extras like shrimp tempura etc. Pay. Eat amazing food. We're definitely going back before we leave tomorrow. Went one last time as today was our last day, I'm going to miss eating here! Great news there is a new Marugame Udon in the south Seattle area!

Great taste, lightning fast service, and unbeatable value for money! Don't let the queue deceive you - everyone's lining up for a reason and you'll have your food in no time! First night in O'ahu looking for a nice place to eat and Marugame Udon was the no.1 reccomendation from online and locals - after eating there? We get it. The service is blindingly fast! You walk in, pick a bowl, add what you like, weigh up, pay up, and eat! Within 5 minutes you're gonna have a deep bowl Of fresh Udon with all you could possibly want inside it. The cutlery, drinks, and condiments are all easy to obtain and seating despite the crowd is surprisingly easy to find too! A really filling, hunger sating meal. Look no further if you haven't chosen where to eat yet!

Fun fresh udon noodle joint. It was fast and we beat the long lines before the dinner rush. I had the #1 but I think the creamy broth #2 was my favorite after trying my husband’s. The tempura sides were good as I enjoyed the sweet potato out of the ones we tried.

We visited Marugame Udon three times during our stay in Honolulu, and every visit was absolutely worth it. We tried several dishes, including the Nikutama, Creamy Broth, Kake, and Tan Tan udon - all of them were delicious. Personally, I think the Nikutama was the best dish of them all. The large portion size was very filling and perfect when you are really hungry. The tempura sides were the perfect addition to complete the meal. Even though there was always a line outside, it moved surprisingly fast, so the wait was never a problem. The price-to-quality ratio is excellent, and we would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Honolulu. Without a doubt, this was the best udon we have ever had in our lives.

I had a fantastic experience here. The udon is clearly freshly made. I had the #1 Nikutama, which was perfectly savory and rich. The broths were delicious and flavorful, providing a great base for the meal. There is a great selection of add-ons and tempura to customize your bowl exactly how you like it. Even though it was busy, the wait wasn't too long, and we had no trouble finding seats after grabbing our food. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to! 🍜

The food was delicious and so was the portion size The creamy broth was full of flavors. The vegan / tan tan was good as a vegan option but lacked strong flavor. Shrimp tempura was really good. The Crab tempura was strictly ok. Overall a good visit. The queue was not that bad. 15-20 mins of wait and it moves fast.

It’s a nice place for udon noodles and tempura. The udon are made fresh from powder and cut into strips. The tempura are freshly fried too. It’s more of a show place of freshly made udon. The broth is rich making it harder to finish a large bowl. The line is usually long in the evening but it only took us 23 minutes from waiting in line to sitting and eating. There are electrical outlets up on the ceiling for anyone who needs to charge their phone.
