Mama Pho (1450 Ala Moana Blvd Ho'okipa Terrace 4th Floor)
About
A Bowl of Comfort Above the Ala Moana Bustle
Stepping into Mama Pho, located on the fourth floor of the Ho'okipa Terrace, feels like a sudden departure from the high-energy sprawl of Honolulu’s most famous shopping district. The open-air setting captures the cooling trade winds, providing a breezy, casual backdrop to a menu that centers on traditional Vietnamese comfort food.
The Aromatics of the Ala Moana Waterfront
The star of the show is the signature beef pho, characterized by a broth that carries a deep, anise-forward scent lingering in the air as soon as the bowls hit the table. You will hear the rhythmic clatter of spoons against ceramic and the distant hum of traffic below, creating a quintessential urban dining soundtrack. It is an ideal spot for shoppers needing to refuel or local workers looking for a straightforward, steaming bowl of comfort after a long afternoon.
Local Nuance
While the panoramic view of the coastline is the primary draw, guests should note that the Ho'okipa Terrace can get quite busy during the lunch rush. Finding a seat during peak hours requires a bit of patience, but the quick, efficient service usually keeps the line moving. Beyond the broth, their crispy spring rolls offer a satisfying crunch that balances the delicate, herbal notes found in their fresh summer rolls. It is a no-frills, honest approach to Vietnamese cuisine that values bold flavors over complex presentation, making it a reliable destination for a quick, authentic meal in the heart of the city.

Overall, this Vietnamese restaurant is ok. If you’re in the Ala Moana center and looking for a quick viet fix, then this place will do the job. But I would not recommend going out of your way to eat here. Restaurant offers a good variety of the standard viet dishes with good portion sizes. The pho we ordered was large with a good amount of noodles/meat and easily shareable between 2 people. Came with the standard toppings (but came with lemons, instead of the standard limes??). Broth/flavor was passable but could have been improved. Staff is not very talkative, but fast and efficient which was good for us! Restaurant is spacious and clean.

To start off my first experience and it was ok. I’ve eaten at many pho restaurants and the soup broth tasted off. Also by the time we were done and about ready for the check they finally remembered and brought over the apple juice we had ordered earlier hehe. Totally ok tho. Atmosphere is beautiful I can say that. The calamari I would not recommend.

They are served extra large bowl. I share my with my wife and it's plenty food. It has a lot of meat and noodles compared to the other pho restaurant. They serve another entry but I prefer the pho.

Mama Pho is a nice looking Vietnamese restaurant in Ala Moana mall. The atmosphere is clean and welcoming. The pho was the normal large proportion that you would expect with pho. The amount of meat in a serving was a goodly amount. But it is a $30 serving so it is correctly proportioned. The staff were friendly giving their broken English. They did seem a little uncomfortable serving haole and preferred to spend time at and speak at length with those that talked their language. No offense taken on my part. But others might not think the same so this is a warning. Now to the part I didn't like. Pho is about the broth. Mama Pho's broth was average at best. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. So I'm conclusion if you are craving an ok bowl of soup while shopping at the mall then this could be an option for you.

Beautiful hidden restaurant at the busy Ala Moana Centre. Enjoyed a delicious and fresh Chicken Pho with absolutely spectacular spring rolls. I really enjoyed my meal here. Everything was fresh and I couldn’t have ask for a tastier pho The restaurant was relatively quiet. It may have been just the time I chose to eat. Overall recommended. Loved this place and would return without hesitation 💕🍜

Dining experience was okay. Food was good. Not sure how I feel about the 3-4$ charges for lettuce/cilantro. Staff was not kind but was not rude either. The pho and spring rolls tasted good but I am unlikely to revisit.

We frequent the shopping center at least once a week and never tried this place because we are not a fan of pho. We happened to be in the right place at the right time and decided to try it for a bahn mi and some vermicelli. We walked in and found the staff so welcoming and the atmosphere was beautiful and so calm as compared to the hustle and bustle of the shopping center. I was impressed by key questions, as we ordered vegetarian (are peanuts okay?) and when served, they also confirmed vegetarian selection (even for the dipping sauce!). Again, I cannot say enough at the politeness of the staff and the quality of the food. Would absolutely go here again. In our opinion, it is a hidden gem! The one thing I felt could be improved, was my Diet Coke was served from the bar and didn't have the fizz I wanted…it was a little weak. Other than that, absolutely perfect visit. (Note, the price per person is including a $9 dessert. If not for dessert, we would have fallen into the $10-20 range).

We came on Mother's Day which is actually the mr's bday and since we celebrated the day before I didn't mind coming here on a whim. We were at the mall returning stuff when we decided to give Mama's a chance as every other restaurant was packed for Mother's Day. Mama's was not. I used to go to their other location do was curious to see if there were any differences. The restaurant is large and for some reason, we were seated all the way in the back. We ordered the vegetarian spring rolls. They came frozen inside. They were returned, apologized for and another batch came out fully heated. I assume they are pre/made and frozen, and fried upon order. We were not charged for them. The broth to both pho's we ordered were good. They have their own chili oil/paste that even mild is hot so beware. The bahn mi was good with the expected crispiness on the outside and chewy dough on the inside. Would I return? Maybe. They are located in Ala Moana shopping center next to Tanaka of Tokyo on the 3rd floor.
