Lung Fung Restaurant
About
A Tradition of Cantonese Flavors in Kaimuki
Stepping into Lung Fung Restaurant feels like a time capsule of Honolulu's culinary history. Located right in the heart of Kaimuki, this long-standing establishment is a go-to for locals seeking authentic Cantonese staples without the pretense. The dining room carries the hum of boisterous family reunions and the clinking of teacups, creating a lively, no-frills environment that prioritizes substance over aesthetics.
Signature Bites and Island Favorites
The menu is anchored by classic preparations that have kept the neighborhood coming back for decades. You will find their salt and pepper pork chops frequently landing on tables, offering a satisfying crunch that gives way to tender, savory meat. Their approach to traditional noodle dishes and steamed preparations highlights a commitment to straightforward, honest cooking techniques. If you appreciate a kitchen that values consistency, you will feel right at home here.
Know Before You Go
While the flavors are top-tier, be prepared for the reality of dining in a busy urban district. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of Honolulu, so give yourself an extra ten minutes to navigate the area. The noise levels can climb when the dinner rush hits, but that energy is part of the charm. It is the perfect spot for a casual weeknight meal or a weekend gathering where the conversation is loud and the food is shared family-style. If you want a genuine taste of Hawaii's Chinese food scene, away from the tourist-heavy districts, this Kaimuki institution remains a staple worth visiting.

For a minute I forgot I was in Hawaii and I felt I am in Japan. Everyone was preparing different dishes, fast and focused with Japanese precision. The onigiri was made fresh while waiting with crispy nori and delicious fresh imported rice. The staff but the place also is very welcoming. Please support more businesses like this instead of chain restaurants. Aloha 🌺

Interesting and delicious selections. Some opt for takeout because the seating is limited. The pork miso soup (tonjiru) is very tasty due to the pork belly. Musubis tuna mayo and shoyu (cream) cheese are recommended for good reason! The small space can be really loud and the staff overwhelmed with orders.

Delicious!! I haven’t found a place in Hawai‘i that does grilled musubi, and they did it fantastically here. The breakfast special is a great deal as well. The waiters were a little frazzled (maybe because of the layout of the restaurant?) but otherwise this was great!

A friend suggested doing breakfast here. Breakfast I questioned?! But wow was that a fun and delicious morning. Simple and incredibly oishiiii menu of musubi, handrolls and miso soup. Get the Yuzu Ikura, saba and tuna mayo. The special pork miso soup is also a must. The service was awesome and I can’t wait to come back. The perfect start to the day and a quiet location to catch up. Located in the Interstate Building across the lobby from Easy Music Center, this place offers discounted validated parking. 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
