LUMU'S FOODS
About
A Slice of Local Life in Honolulu
Stepping into Lumu's Foods feels like dropping by a friend’s kitchen in the heart of Honolulu. Far from the polished tourist traps, this spot focuses on honest, no-frills cooking that captures the soul of island comfort food. The air is consistently thick with the savory scent of slow-cooked meats and steamed white rice, a signature aroma that greets you the moment you slide through the door.
The Menu That Hits Home
The culinary philosophy here is straightforward: prioritize flavor over flash. Regulars flock to the counter for their take on local staples, where the plate lunches come piled high with traditional favorites. You’ll find the kalua pork is consistently tender, showing off a deep, smoky profile that suggests hours of careful preparation. It’s the kind of meal that demands a quick nap afterward, making it an ideal fuel stop for locals navigating a busy workday in the city.
What to Expect
Don't expect white tablecloths or quiet corners; the space hums with the energetic clatter of metal trays and local conversation. It gets busy during the lunch rush, and you might have to sharpen your elbows to snag one of the few seats available. The service is fast-paced and efficient, matching the rhythm of the surrounding neighborhood. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite before heading to the beach or picking up a massive order for a family gathering, Lumu's provides a consistent, authentic taste of Honolulu that keeps the community coming back for seconds.

Says the Wilder location opens at 8am. I walked down to get breakfast at 9am and they weren't open. Next week I arrived at 10:30am and they weren't open. Went to Subway.

Very clean establishment. Friendly staff. BBQ chicken and kalua port with cabbage were both very good. No restroom though.

Amazing food, chicken katsu was FRESH (loud crunch), everything is virtually spotless, brand new establishment, staff was friendly, cheap food, and plenty of seating.

Nice and New. Glad L&L replaced the old previous Makiki Inn restaurant that was here before. I like it. It’s nice and has nice tables and new menu. I had the Chicken Katsu. I always judge an L&L by their Chicken Katsu. This location has pretty good Katsu. If you grew up in Hawai’i, you know what I’m talking about. I give full stars for the niceties and new location. L&L always provide customers with good local Hawaii plate lunches. I haven’t tried all their stuff yet but I will come back.
