Los Chaparros Mexican Restaurant
About
A Slice of Mexico Near Ala Moana
Finding genuine Mexican soul food in the middle of Honolulu can be a challenge, but Los Chaparros delivers that familiar, comforting heat right off Keeaumoku Street. The interior is humble and unpretentious, defined by the lingering aroma of toasted corn tortillas and slow-simmered chiles that hits you the moment the door swings open.
The Kitchen's Signature Style
This spot is a favorite for those craving hearty portions that don't skimp on spice. The menu stays true to tradition, featuring deep, rich mole sauces and carne asada that carries a distinct, smoky char. It’s the kind of place where you come for a quick lunch during a break from the surrounding urban bustle or a casual evening meal when you want something substantial without the fuss of white-tablecloth service.
Local Observations
The space is cozy, which can lead to a lively, sometimes energetic decibel level during the peak dinner rush. While parking in this busy pocket of Oahu can be a game of patience, the trade-off is a plate of authentic, steaming-hot enchiladas that feel miles away from the typical island fare. Whether you are a local resident or visiting the central Honolulu district, Los Chaparros provides a reliable, no-nonsense escape for anyone seeking a vibrant, spicy meal in an authentic setting.

IMHO, simply one of the best Mexican restaurants in Honolulu. Much more than just tacos, tortas (Mexican style sandwich’s,) enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, salads and a whole lot more to enjoy. The portion sizes are generous. The house made smokey salsa is an excellent addition with more than chips. Friendly and accommodating staff. A very good selection of beer, sprits and soft drinks to accompany your dining selections. If you find room they have several unique dessert options to close out your dining experience. This place gets busy at times and a wait might be expected with seating; dine-in and to-go orders. Parking is limited and at times somewhat hard to find.

Everything was great as usual. One of the busiest days is Cinco de Mayo and they kept up and always with a smile. So many great choices on the menu and you will be glad you stopped in.

Super great service. Expansive menu. Delicious. Ample portions. I had to take 1/3 of my burrito home with me. My wife loved her enchilada. She had churros and ice cream for dessert. Enough for two. They opened at five and the parking lot was already full. People were waiting to get in.

We had a great experience at Los Chaparros. I had the chicken fajitas and my friend had ground beef burritos they were both delicious. I don’t normally take home leftovers, but I took these with me. My friend had the top shelf margarita and she loved it. No fake premade mix. We will be back often.

You could not ask for a more authentic Mexican place! We were met with the friendliest staff upon opening the doors. We were there on a Friday night and it was busy- but that didn’t stop the servers from going above and beyond making sure we had a fantastic experience despite the wait. They offered us drinks and chips while we waited. The food was incredible! Our entire family of 5 was full and pleased with every meal that was ordered. Despite the packed house, our server was super attentive. We will be back time and time again. So much heart and love in the service and the food. Kudos to the owner for creating an atmosphere full of joy.

Fantastic place. The food was excellent, had the pozole and the 3 item combo plate. Loved all of it. AT (I think) our waiter was very helpful in explaining the menu and various options. Will definitely be back…..

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants on Oahu. I like the colorful ambiance and welcoming vibes. We were greeted and seated right away. They have booths and tables. This time I wanted to try something different so we went with the table. We ordered ceviche, 1 choice beef burrito with beans and rice, and 1 choice green sauce enchilada with pozole. It was the first time I tried their Ceviche. It was served with what I think was mayo and it was sweet, but I prefer more salty and savory flavor. The entrees were delicious and I was very happy with the pozole! I would recommend the enchiladas, pozole, and tamales.

This is my go-to for Mexican cravings. The portions are large and always delicious. The service is always warm, attentive and personable. I appreciate feeling like they are happy to see me, it really goes a long way with feeling welcome as a returning customer. I also get takeout sometimes and my order is always on point. I live nearby and this is the type of place I want to give my business to. :) The photos I included are the chilaquiles with green sauce and egg, and the strawberry chimichanga.

Picked up lunch here on a Sunday. The small parking lot was full but we found an opening across the street. If I could give six stars for service I would. We were greeted when we entered the restaurant. We were offered a table to sit at and look over the menu. After we ordered our take out we were given chips, salsa and water to enjoy while we waited. They were extremely warm and friendly. When our food was ready, they gave us more chips and salsa to go. The food was good although I would've liked the portion sizes to be larger. The chicken burrito was really good and the salsa and chips were excellent. Again, the customer service was so impressive.

Nice cozy clean family Mexican restaurant. Menudo soup unexpectedly the best I had in Hawaii so far. Chicken burrito was alright it seems be shredded chicken with some sauce wrapped , no beans no rice inside. Enchilada too spicy I had a hard time finish it My friend ordered Mole I never had before really good Margarita was on point. I would go another time to try another options . Waiter was friendly and expedicious.
