Liliha Drive Inn
About
A Taste of Old-School Honolulu
Tucked away in the heart of Liliha, this no-frills drive-in is where the neighborhood gathers for honest, straightforward island comfort food. The air here carries the faint, savory scent of charred meats and frying batter, a permanent fixture that signals you are in the right place. There is nothing fancy about the setup—just the steady hum of a ventilation fan and the clatter of takeout containers being shuffled across the counter.
Menu Staples and Local Favorites
Liliha Drive Inn remains a go-to spot for those seeking classic plate lunches that hit the spot without the pretense. The menu leans heavily into local staples: generous portions of teriyaki beef, crispy fried chicken, and the heavy, satisfying heft of a well-made hamburger steak swimming in savory brown gravy. It is the kind of cooking that prioritizes volume and flavor over aesthetics, perfect for a quick, filling lunch break or a post-beach fuel-up.
The Liliha Experience
Expect a functional environment where the pace is set by the hungry locals queuing up. While you might find yourself navigating a tight parking situation, the efficiency of the kitchen staff keeps the line moving fast. The seating is modest, designed for quick turnover rather than lingering, making it an ideal choice for diners who value a hot, reliable meal above white-tablecloth service. It captures the unvarnished essence of Honolulu’s dining culture, offering a genuine slice of daily life in this historic district.

Stopped by for dinner. From the reviews, we chose steak and shrimp plate which came with rice and mac salad. Steak flavor was delicious but unfortunately very tough. Shrimp was okay. Oxtail soup came piping hot with a side of rice. It was also delicious and very soothing. Very meaty and loaded with oxtail.

Super casual spot with great food. Ordered a combo with bbq short rib and fried shrimp, comes with rice and mac salad. Flavor of the short rib was very good and smokey, the shrimp was super crispy, and portions are good (5 shrimps and 2 galbi). Highly recommend!
