L&L Hawaiian Barbecue - Honolulu (Ahua St)
About
A Taste of Island Comfort Near the Airport
Stepping into the L&L Hawaiian Barbecue outpost on Ahua Street, you are met with the unmistakable scent of char-grilled meats and the hum of a bustling, industrial corner of Honolulu. This isn’t a spot for white-tablecloth service; it’s a high-energy kitchen where the primary focus is delivering the ultimate island-style plate lunch to hungry locals and travelers passing through the airport district.
The Classic Plate Lunch Experience
The menu here sticks to the time-tested L&L formula that made the brand a household name across Hawaii. You’ll find the staples that define local comfort food: the deep-fried golden crispy chicken katsu paired with a generous scoop of creamy macaroni salad and two mounds of white rice. If you are leaning toward something heartier, the kalua pork with cabbage or the savory, thinly sliced beef short ribs are the standout options that satisfy that mid-day hunger.
Because of its strategic placement near the industrial center of town, expect a lively, rapid-fire environment during the lunch rush. It can get quite loud with the clatter of takeout containers and the constant flow of traffic, so it is better suited for a quick, grab-and-go meal rather than a quiet conversation. Be prepared for limited parking during peak hours as local workers descend on the counter, but the turnover is fast enough that you won't be waiting long for your fix of island-style comfort. It is the kind of no-frills, honest cooking that fuels the workforce of Oahu every single day.

Avoid giant shiny corp fast food chains with terrible help..! Eat local ! I had pork and cabbage. Good quantity good flavor. I'd prefer just a bit more pork / less cabbage. No complaints. Lady was so pleasant food was delicious. not far from airport in industrial area.

Just ate breakfast there and I was disappointed it was a total let down. The pork adobo omelette was horrible and the adobo tasted like old roast pork not to mention the tiny bits of bone inside the meat. My wife ordered a grilled cheese sandwich on wheat bread with no butter and lo and behold it came out with extra butter and tasted like shrimp. We returned it and the lady didn’t even bother to return our money she just kept going about her business. Only when I asked for the refund she said no she not going to give us back the money because it’s not her fault that the sandwich was not to our liking. So I told so you just going keep the three dollars and she replied that it was only three dollars and it’s not a big deal. I told her I don’t care if it’s three dollars or twenty dollars you need to refund me my money. Only then she returned the money and kept going on about next time don’t come here so I said okay I won’t. Never again will I eat there.

Great service, good serving time, had the mushroom omelette with a side of spam and rice with a large drink. A little on the pricey side at $15 but the food is always great. Limited parking.

Beautiful eggs and beef stew. If you’re waiting for someone doing medical stuff nearby, this place has air conditioning, good food and clean tables.

Everyone has their favorite L&L and this would my Mom & mine favorite. It's not because Maryann seems like she works 7days a week, or that she knows what your gonna order as you step into the door, its not because she's a great lady always smiling and it's not because it never seems to be crowded no matter what time of the day, but rather it's a great location, the food is always good and the taste is consistent, there's ample seating inside to dine and even a restroom. Parkings a bit tight because it's shared by a few establishments but the coolest thing is it's the only place I know you can still find a real payphone outside of an L&L.

Great place for a quick lunch. The mini size is more than enough for a full lunch. The spicy bbq chicken was delicious and the food is ready very quickly.

I always go to Paiea st location, but it is closed for construction right now. Drove to this location and got my usual. Super good, great portion. Tastes like home! Limited parking, and difficult to back out due to being on the road. It’s worth it though. Super nice humans at the front counter as well
